Newbee for occassions. Fam shooting with growing kids. Quality #1. Which should I get?

I'd say HV20. I had a XL1s (similar image to GL2) and the HV20 blows it away as far as image quality.

hv20. i used to own a dvx100 and sold it solely for an hv20. you don't know how many times i wanted to bring my dvx to family outings. w/ the hv20, i'll be able to do that comfortably. just waiting for my shipment from dell to make it official. high def over standard def anytime of the day.

comparing apples and oranges. High def compared to Standard def, get the HV20, its a no brainier! (i do love the gl2 though, well i did at least)

I own and love both.
Very different animals

My heart says GL2 but brain and forward thinking says HV20.
Not a prosumer cam though... but from the need you describe, go for the HV20
