What would your ideal Canon camera have?

1) An S35/APS-C sized sensor, but no 18 megapixel bin-ing issues.

2) CF or SDHD recording.

3) 35 Mbps data rate with an efficient codec.

4) A shoulder mount configuration.

5) Not too heavy, not too light.

6) HDMI or HD-SDI out.

Its been 17 months since Canon announced a new Pro video camera. They are due.

Merely a rumor, but an interesting rumor.

based on the xha1 which is hdv, it could be avchd like nxcam/avccam (21mb is enough)

if it goes up any higher, id prefer it to be intraframes 4:2:2 since that would make more sense than having 35mbps mpeg2 which is inferior to avchd

I misquoted on that. The article said 56 Mbps, not 35 with AVCHD compression. And based on the XL-H1 not the XH-A1, though internally they are pretty much the same, but interchangeable lenses, breakout box and shoulder configuration.

seems like a madeup rumor.

seems like a madeup rumor.

A rumor is a rumor, and it was labeled as such. However, various forms of this rumor have been circulating for awhile.

Its certainly within the capabilities of the existing technology. Basically if you had a lower resolution APS-C sized sensor (like 3-4k) you wouldn't have bin-ing issues or data rate issues. The rest of the technology would be like the 7D and A1, H1, G1 series.
