The 50/60p is impossible, because of the single chip the 5D uses. The 24/25p were also a 50-50 chance to be impossible, depending on how the camera was built and if it was using the generic camera clock or not. Apparently, it's not. But the 50/60p will never happen.

I can't read the article, so would be grateful for some 'highlights'.

It's not really unusual for Canon to wait until some time after the 7D release though, as it guarantees more cam sales like this.

Hurray, if it's really going to be 24p/25p soon!

When it rains it pours.

Mike Seymour just posted that Canon has announced a firmware update for the Canon 5D Mark II that will support 24p and 25p at 1920x1080.

“We understand that EOS 5D Mark II users desire additional frame rates and we’re preparing a firmware update to allow the camera to shoot at both 24P and 25P,” said Chris Macleod, Brand Manager – EOS, Canon Australia.

Canon expects the firmware update to be available in the first half of 2010 and will release more details as they become available.

Hmmm... shame about the lack of 50/60p support, but as eugenia says thats a hardware problem.

Disicision time then:

1.6x crop + 50p or
full frame + better low light

It's a toughy.

add 1.3x + everything better with 1D4 and that's even tougher on the wallet !!

Or, the fact that I need to shoot during the coming months. I guess it will have to be the 7D.

Hurray!

I hope this will address the 30.00 vs. 29.97 issue as well. Then I will be good to go.

Great I bought the 5D sold it to buy the 7D, and now I want to sell the 7D to go back to 5D. lolz joking but I can see some poor soul doing that.

Great news for the 5D guys, should have came 24p from the get go.

For me I would go 7D but I am hanging on to see what canon comes out with next. Most likely a 7D in a "video" camera package.

Or the firmware update leads to magic latern figuring out how to enable custom framerates on a Canon Rebel T1i and makes it 24p,25p in 1080p. With full manual as well and we have the budgetking. (dream, dream):hv20-smilie110:

Well, if you have the money and especially since you already have the 150 you might fair better with a 5Dll. Your 150 already has slow motion right? Me, I don’t want to struggle with focusing…so I’m getting the 7D.

i just love the selection of fast wide primes on a full frame.. not the DOF at all.

but i can buy more stuff with the 7D.
I guess ill stick with 7D for a while.

If they could do 24p in 1080p i'd cry tears of joy, that'd truely be a fantastic deal then.

If you live in Australia you can actually rent this thing. It's sitting in the body of an old Sony Betacam. Check it out on Phil Bloom's blog spot:

I still love everything done with that hitler movie. 'Wedding footage with so much grain it looks like 1960's.'

Hahaha, go HV30/20/40 !
