Hi, some time ago, I co-directed a short called El Punto Ciego -The Blind Spot-. We used 2 dvx100 in parallel in order to get some pseudoHD resolutions -like 1280x544-. Then we transferred to film 2,35:1 and it was pretty good -imho, quite better than some stuff we did in hdv after that-.

So, I wanted to show you the short:

Interesting technique.. the seam is quite noticable though. I've only ever seen people shoot with two cameras side by side to do 3d work.

Yeah, we didn't wanted to hide the seam, in fact we added a mask simulating the human sight. With this technique, you have a seamless image only in a fixed distance. All that is behind will appear doubled and all that is nearer disappears. So, in each shot, we had to decide what we wanted to be in line.

Thanks both for your feedbak and regards!

Outstanding quality filmmaking!

I quite loved the seam in the middle. It has its charms.

What was this for? Did you send it to festivals? Tell us some more about it!

Yeah, it was selected in more than 100 film festivals, such as Los Angeles Film Festival and Sacramento FF; most of them were european. We shoot shorts so we get a chance to shoot feature films :)

Thanks and regards!

SPECTACULAR!

Really great work here! Kudos!!!!

Question: Was it possible at all to get a 'seamless' looking shot? I'm now wondering what would happen if I rigged two HV20 on top of each other to get a weird aspect ratio like 1920x2160!!!

Thanks!

And regarding your question, you can get a seamless image at one only distance. I mean, if you look at the attached draft, there's a distance in which the image goes from one side to the other seamlessly. But, all that is behind that distance will appear doubled -if you look at the subway sequence, the reflected image at the window appears twice. Opposite this, all that is in front of that distance, gets lost in the seam.
Excuse my english, I'd explain it MUCH better in spanish. I think the second attached image will tell what I can't.

So, thanks again and best regards!

p.s. if you try that crazy aspect ratio, post some grabs! :hv20-smilie112:

By the way, you can download a 720p version through Pando:

Either way, this is a brilliant low-budget idea to getting higher resolution. Besides that, you have a gift for storytelling and execution. Pursue it! You're only on to better things!

Heck, with FOUR HV20's you can get something that would rival the RED camera in terms of resolution!

Granted, there would be a *lot* of limitations to such of a crazy setup...but still, would be neat to see huh?

Tutto bene!

Hahaha, trust me, it was difficult enough to get that two camera setup working. Planning each shot was nightmarish and almost no one undestood wtf we were doing...
But, all said, I'd love playing 4 hv20 in mosaic!

Best regards

p.s. by the way, the origins of this technique is called Cinerama and was used in some old westerns
