Viewfinders: useful or useless?

I would like to get a canon hfs100 and I am wondering if it would be a drawback not having a viewfinder. I want to use the cam to make a movie.
I think I'll construct one of those steadycam gadgets and with that setup,
the LCD seems to be more practical. What do you think?
