View Full Version : HV40 PAL with Vegas Platinum 9b Cannot Render to FULL Screen in YouTube

OK here goes, but first, this is what I have done so far:

I have read the FAQ's
I have watched Little Billy in the video
I have read and tried Eugenia's Tutorial
I am up to page 46 of 103 pages of threads in the PC (non-Mac Computers, Editing and Software Forum)

I have been trying to work this out myself for 2 weeks, but I only have two strands of hair left and my kids are starting to get scared!!

If there's another word for "newbie" that's before "newbie" then that's me!!

I am in Australia and have bought a HV40 PAL together with the Sony Vegas Movie Studio Platinum Pro Pack Version 9b.

My aim is to produce "how to" and "product update" informational videos for our business.

My problem is getting my videos to successfully render to YouTube in "full Widescreen", i.e., using the whole video area of YouTube. I do get the HQ option, but my video is just surrounded by a 'black box.'

Here are my Project Properties:

TEMPLATE: HDV 1080 - 50i (1440 x 1080) 25.000 fps.
WIDTH: 1,440
HEIGHT: 1,080
FIELD ORDER: Upper Field First
PIXEL ASPECT RATIO: 1.3333 (HDV 1080)
FRAME RATE: 25.000 (PAL)
FULL RESOLUTION RENDERING QUALITY: Best
DEINTERLACE METHOD: None

I used the "Match Media Settings" to capture these settings.

Here are my Render Settings:

SAVE TYPE AS: Windows Media Video V11
TICKED 'Stretch video to fill output frame size (do not letterbox)
VIDEO RENDERING QUALITY: Best

AUDIO is fine (advice from these forums suggested the AZDEN WLX-PRO VHF Wireless Lapel Microphone and I'm very happy with it)

VIDEO:
MODE: Bit Rate VBR (Peak)
FORMAT: Windows Media Video 9
IMAGE SIZE: High Definition (1280 x 720)
PIXEL ASPECT RATIO: 1.3333 (HDV 1080)
FRAME RATE (FPS): 25.000 (PAL)
SECONDS PER KEYFRAME: 3
AVERAGE BIT RATE (bps): 4.50 M
PEAK BIT RATE (bps): 5 M
PEAK BUFFER SIZE (sec): 20

I have tried all sorts of combinations but to no avail.

I would certainly appreciate any advice or suggestions from yourselves as to what I am doing wrong.

Thank you in advance and my apologies (CycleWriter) :) if this thread has been put in the wrong forum.

Regards
Damien

Not an expert,

But...

PIXEL ASPECT RATIO: 1.000 (Square)

That seems to be the only difference in your setup and the one that I occasionally use. (Only NTSC.)

Hi Bill

Thank you for the suggestion, unfortunately that didn't work aswell. I think I've tried every combination of Pixel Aspect Ratio in Project Properties like 1.000 Square, 1.333 HDV 1080 and 1.4568 PAL DV Widescreen with 1.000 Square and 1.333 HDV at the Render As stage.

I must be doing something wrong at some point - but for the life of me I just can't figure it out.

You are exporting incorrectly, that's why Youtube does that. NEVER export with non square pixels for the web, even if some services seem to be better than others about that. Use this tutorial please: http://eugenia.gnomefiles.org/2007/11/09/exporting-with-vegas-for-vimeo-hd/

Hi Eugenia

Thank you for the link, however, I went thru your tutorials previously and tried that and it still wouldn't work to Full Screen. I even tonight shot some raw footage (15sec) in PF25 but still no luck.

I am assuming you mean 1.000 Square when I render? As my Project Properties default to 1.333 Then again I even tried changing my Project Properties Pixel Ratio to 1.000 to see what happens.

Some more info on exactly what I am doing to see if I am skipping a step or just stuffing it up completely!!

When I render, it saves it to my render folder under my project. I then delete the clip from my timeline and drop in the rendered file and then Upload it to YouTube - is that the correct process or is that what I am doing wrong? I just don't know how else you would upload the rendered file to YouTube.

Also when I upload the rendered file to You Tube, I simply check that it has uploaded to my account (takes about 3-5 mins) and see that it's not filling the full screen, then delete it and start again. I'm assuming it should appear correctly straight away?

I now have one hair left, so I'm doing my best with the "little" knowledge I have - but I'm trying not to get too frustrated as I know the solution is not too far away - I Hope!!

That seems like a roundabout way of doing it. Click "Make Movie." Save the file to the desktop (or wherever) then upload to YouTube.

WE HAVE A WINNER!!!

Bill you're a legend - thank you.

I did what you suggested and actually uploaded the video via my YouTube account rather than via Vegas and it works perfectly.

Thank you all for taking the time to give me your suggestions - very very much appreciated. My kids will be so happy that they will now have their fun and happy Dad back and not the grumpy one of late.

Why would you render your project and then drop it back into your timeline? Your rendered file is your finished video. Simply upload that. You made this more complicated than it needed to be. Glad you got it figured out while you still have at least one hair left.

Hi CycleWriter

I suppose my reasoning was that when you click on Upload To Youtube via Vegas it simply takes you to the YouTube login area and doesn't give you an option to select a rendered file, so consequently the only way I could perceive uploading to Youtube was to dump the rendered file back into the timeline.

As I said, if there's a word to describe a newbie before a 'newbie' - that's me!

Anyway, the hairs starting to grow back, however it's coming back grey.

Thanks again for taking the time to help me out - much appreciated.
