Hi All.

I just got a Canon HF S10 and I like it a lot. And when I play back my footage directly to my TV (via HDMI) it looks fantastic. It also looks good in the LCD viewer.

However, when I view or edit the MTS files on my PC (Vista 64 bit) the colors are really, really dull. The footage looks equally poor in Pixela, Vegas, and also in the MTS viewer that came with the camera.

I'm new to video editing but I tried some simple color correction in Vegas and I still couldn't get it to look nearly as good as what I see on my TV.

And when I look at other video from the HF S10 posted on Vimeo the colors look good.

Of course this is all kinda subjective so maybe I'm just being overly critical.

Has anyone else experienced this?

And is there a way I can objectively judge whether or not colors are being properly rendered on my PC?

Thanks for any help!
David F.

Well it could be that your PC monitor is not calibrated properly.

Do you have a monitor calibrator?

I don't but I'll look into it.

Thanks.

I have the same problem, havent really found a soluion. I am also using Vegas and the best "solution" I could find was to make a render of a part of my project at 720p and then preview the sample with Windows Media Player or on my PS3. I was wondering, do you have a problem with viewing your footage in the preview window? I get a very choppy playback.

Yeah, the preview window playback is definitely choppy. But I think that's just because AVCHD editing requires quite a bit of computing power.

When I view or render stuff in Vegas the CPU usage is 100%.
