what setting is best to upload to the web?

Hey everyone, I'v posted a few short movies on youtube, but they have only a fraction of the quality as my DVDs have. I've tried uploading under different settings--1080, 1420, 1740, mpeg2, mpeg4, etc, etc, but none of them produce a better image. I found some videos on Youtube that look crappy like mine ... until I click on HD/HQ and they look like mine do on DVD. I edit/output from Sony Vegas Platnum 9.0. What format is the best for the web?

There are probably a dozen threads already ongoing on exacvtly this same subject, not to mention a Sticky with a link to Eugenia's very excellent tutorial on this. I suggest you look for them.
