Hello guys,

do u have any advice for which is the "high definition" camcorder that can record longest videos on any support ( hard disk, sd card, ecc.. ), and with a battery that can last as many hours possible ?

I am sick of keep changing batteries every 1-2 hours and tape every 1 hour, but at the same time I would like not to sacrifice the video quality ( I have a Canon HV10).

Thank you

I believe Panasonic's prosumer line that uses P2 cards have 2 slots for them, which means as long as you have enough cards, you have an infinite recording time. P2 cards are, however, very expensive and the camcorders that use them are expensive as well, so hard drive camcorders are the next biggest contenders.

Sony's HDR-XR520V has a 240GB hard drive, and can record 1750 minutes of video at its highest quality. At its lowest quality, it can record a whopping 10100 minutes of video.

Flash cameras use SDHC cards, and those are available in all kinds of sizes. The best choice would probably be the 32GB ones - a lot smaller than the hard drive cams (but still more than you'll need).

If you ask me, tapes are enough, and anything bigger is just going to be risking more footage. Say you've got 2 years of precious memories with your children and wife, and you spill a cup of coffee on your camcorder. Oh dear, I believe you just lost 2 years of your life.

The Canon HG21 camera can shoot 11 hours of HD video in MXP mode ( 24 Mbps ), and 15.75 hours of video in FXP mode ( 17 Mbps ) which for most purposes looks exactly the same.

At it's lowest bitrate LP mode ( 5 Mbps ) it can shoot just under 46 hours of video, though I doubt you would want to ever use this mode.

As far as battery life goes, the BP-827 battery lasts for about 4.5 hours when used with the Canon HG21. I suspect the battery would last even longer on a memory card only camera like the Canon HF-20.

BP-827 is the highest capacity battery. It should last over 4 hours.

First NightShot, now long-lasting battery. Who are you stalking? Let it go, it has been two years already.

I love the fact that my HG21 has 11 1/2 hours worth of HD recording space,as well as another 3Hrs of room on the 32Gig SDHC card I have in it, best of both worlds.....
