The Mrs has just got back from Europe with 10 tapes of footage.
Plugged the HV20 into the Plasma and the quality is fantastic!

So, where to from here, I have access to Final Cut Studio 5 and/or iLife 08

Which product show I now invest my time with?

I have never edited video before but I would like to burn these to DVD after the editing and watch on the big TV. My plasma supports 1366 x 768 (1080i) and my Denon DVD palyer can upscale to 1080P

Sorry for the newbie question but just need someone to point me in the right direction

FCP and iMovie '08 are 2 different beasts. Since you are new to editing, I'd use iMovie '08 since it is supposed to be "user friendly".

The only thing to add in the equation is that being in PAL land, I bought a NTSC HV20 due to low price point.

Will this affect what software I should use?

Would like to create PAL DVD's but not a major issue if there will be major quality loss converting

I would be interested to know if your camera is compatable with PAL systems - I did read on another thread that you can't mix NTSC and PAL!
Having said that I noticed that Studio 11 accepts NTSC as a Capture format. I don't know if it will convert to PAL for output.
