Not sure if I should post here or under the PC editing topic.
I was just asked to edit a video done with the Red. I guess it's in 4k.
I was about to upgrade to latest Premier pro, I'm running CS 2 and I wanted to ask the good people of Hv20 if any of you have tried the new import to premier...
question: Am I insane to try to edit a 3 min clip with dual-core 2Ghz 32 bit machine?
how was your experience with render times?
Thanks in advance!

I'm not a Premier user, but my friend Jeff (http://www.hv20.com/member.php?u=18204) has been loving the CS4 workflow with his RED. There's a pretty good video (http://tv.adobe.com/#vi+f1510v1006) covering the basics on AdobeTV.

I have set up the red premiere workflow on my pc. I have cs4, and I tested some redcode files in it. I will say this: they were slow. I have an older pc (trying to get a new one this year). In reality, you need some powerful specs to edit in realtime, or a red rocket card.
Cs4 is great, and you'll need red's plug in for it. Cs4 itself is more intense... make sure you update it.
Also I wanted to say that the premiere workflow has a redcode downrezzing preview option. You can have the files only render previews at 512-1k, which is much less intense.

Thank you both for the info.
My system is Ok for HD, I doubt I'd be able to have full or half quality for 4k files. Jeff's video has a 16 core workstation at 3Ghz...
Thanks again!

With the Michael Jackson mania Jim J. must love this picture on the MTv website.

I didn't realize how slick the integration with Premiere and After Effects was until I saw this video. Scratch? Who needs Scratch? With a hot machine and you could easily edit and grade RedCode stuff with just CS4. If it's not fast enough for you you can just add a Red Rocket. Brilliant!
