What would happen if I used an HDMI-DVI cable to hook my HV20 to an external LCD monitor that only does 1680x1050? I'm assuming 30 horizontal rows will be missing, but I wanted to check with everyone else. I don't have an HDMI cable to test this out with and rather not pay a restocking fee if it doesn't work.
Thanks!

I really don't know how well that would work, but it would probably automatically size down to 720p. I don't know, but that's what I would think would happen.
You're probably better off just using the component cable that came with your camera. That would definitely automatically size to 720p and, plus, you've already got the cable. That being said, DVI to HDMI cables are handy regardless, and I would recommend getting one just to have it. I got one for about a buck off of Amazon.com and the picture quality is quite excellent.

Your monitor is not non-HD, it IS HD, 1280x720 is an official HD standard.
Also, if you connect the monitor via HDMI, the HV will automatically detect the maximum resolution supported by your monitor, and adjust its output accordingly.

Ah! I was a bit confused with 720 and 1080, but this definitely clears it up.
Another thing, just before I make the plunge, if I do hook up the HDMI cable, will I be able to record as well as monitor? I assume so, but just need to check!
I don't have the component video cable. I got this camera second and and it didn't come with one. Plus, I don't have anywhere to plug that one in as well.
Thanks!

Because I'm curious like this, are you saying your TV has HDMI but not component?
