View Full Version : Hot shoe adaptor for HFS100

I just bought a Sony UWP-V1 wireless mic system for my HFS100.

The Sony receiver comes with a hot shoe mounting adaptor that (of course) does not fit Canon's HFS100 custom hot shoe.
Can this Sony adaptor be filed down to fit ? Is there any other alternative ?

The Canon AVCHD mini-advanced shoes can't be used with full-advanced shoe accessories. There is no adapter for that. The only adapter that exists is from mini to cold shoe, which is of course only useful if you just want to mount something rather than actually using the hot shoe's communication capabilities.
This is one of the reasons why the HV series are still relevant compared to the new crop of AVCHD cams.

Thanks. That's really all I need. Something to mount the Sony receiver on. No need for connection. So I look for a mini to cold shoe adaptor ?
Any idea about suppliers ? Where do I look ?

There is this hot-to-cold shoe adapter that I've seen people post with the HF series:
Amazon.com: Adorama Mini Advanced Accessory Shoe to Universal Shoe Adapter, Flat Type, for Canon Camcorders, Silver: Camera & Photo
but, I just saw this one:
Amazon.com: Adorama Canon Mini Advanced Shoe to Multipoint Universal Shoe Adapter (CUBE TYPE) - Silver: Camera & Photo
And, in the description, it mentions:
This adapter converts Canon's proprietary "Mini Advanced Shoe" shoe to a universal "cold" shoe. The Canon Vixia HF10 and HF100 camcorders are currently the only two camcorders known to have the Mini Advanced Shoe. This multipoint adapter allows the user to mount devices vertically or horizontally, depending on the device. Some manuals for wireless devices recommend the antenna be oriented vertically, and CMS-CUBE easily allows this.
I don't know how good these are. I saw a reviewer at a site say he had to sand the first one down.
You can also ask admin Lunchbox (http://hv20.com/member.php?u=219&) if he has anything; an adapter or maybe a bracket you can mount the camcorder and mic on - from his L.A. Color Online Store (http://lacolorshop.com/default.asp).

I just went out and bought a flash bracket for $15, I just thought the adapter is a little pricey IMO.

$15 ? Now that's more reasonable for a piece of special plastic.
Kyleman, can I ask you where you bought this flash bracket from ?

Agreed. ;)
I just went to Best Buy and got one, I looked on BH and they were $18-$30, and I didn't want to wait for shipping. But here's the one:

My only gripe with brackets is they can move side-to-side a bit depending on how you set up your rig/camera, because it doesn't have that little piece that will prevent it from doing so. But if you get it on there tight enough it's fine most of the time.

Doesn't this SIMA bracket block the camcorder's lcd panel from opening ? Can the bracket be switched to the right hand side ?

Yes, that's how I have it, and it works great.

Dang. Can't seem to find this bracket in Canada. Do me a favor and let me know if you find any other brand brackets or reasonable cold to hotshoe adaptors....

ebay has something thta might work, for $7.99
it's called a
Synchro Sync Hot Shoe Flash Adapter w Tripod Socket.
you can trim the base to fit your camcorder shoe.
the wire isn't needed.

no, it's not a mini, but i'd rather trim an inexpensive thing
to fit the mini shoe than trimming an expensive mic.
you can trim it with a file.
(i haven't actually tried this gadget, but i am going to try.)
should work.

On same topic; I'm considering getting a hv30 but discovered it uses a different hot shoe "advanced accessory shoe" than the universal type. Which one do I need? Found this http://www.adorama.com/VDCMSFLAT.html?sid=1264819904330664 but the page says I don't need it for hv30. Am trying to find shoe compatible with this: http://www.filmtools.com/ninmounbracf.html or universal shoe to 1/4".
