In additional to my two Canon HV30s and XH-A1, please welcome the new member, XH-A1s. I still need to read the manual to try to understand and play with the new feature. I will report back shortly.

Sweet camera!
What's the difference between the XH-A1s and the regular XH-A1?

I've been looking at this cam. I don't want to get too personal but, do you mind me asking where and how much? I'm looking for a good deal. I'm noticing a lot of bait and switch sites that advertise it, but it's pretty pricey @ B&H

Congrats Taky, I got mine a couple weeks ago, I bought it through this site, so I hope it helped earn you a few bucks for the site. Im still learning, as you know it came with a book.

@Jerkstore, as you also know about bait-n-switch stores, for big ticket items like this, I'd rather buy from a reputable vendor. I bought from JR.com as I have a store credit with them that I can use. Otherwise, B&H will be my favorite choice.

@politikill, the money helps the owner to paying for the web hosting and maintenance cost of this forum. it's not for a profit to the forum owner or mods.

... but it's pretty pricey @ B&H

At this time it's the latest model, but B&H has already dropped it $500. It's only pricey compared to the bait and switch stores.

Newegg, B&H, J&R, Samy's are all the same price. That's most of the legitimate big sellers.

Lunchbox, is that the remote IR sensor beside the lens, or the autofocus sensor?

Also, does it have the HD-SDI breakout box like the XH-G1?

Looks great!

Lunchbox - I took the same plunge a few weeks back.
I love every inch of it.

Duke, it doesn't have the HD-SDI. And I think what you are referring to is the IR sensor.

I just used it all day today at wedding. I also love everybit of it.

One of the biggest annoying things of the XH-A1 is, it focus very slowly in 30F and 24F mode. I found the focus engine works a lot faster now. The ease-in and ease-out zooming machanism also help in my opinion.

Another annoying problem for XH-A1 is, when I pan and zoom out at the same time, in certain range, the screen starting to scroll (it's hard to describe). It shows on LCD screen also be recorded to tape. I don't see it today at all.

What I don't like, the zoom ring, focus ring and iris ring are very heavy. I like it the old way before.

AGC limiter rocks. I now limit AGC to 3db max. It works very well in dim room.

There're other physical changes. Those to me are really minor. All the things that were not doing right in XH-A1 is fixed in XH-A1s. It is also definitely can be fixed by a firmware update.

On your second picture down on your blog it shows the back of both cameras. The S model has an extra box on the back right side.

It appears to have twice as many covered connections, and that's where the G1 has the HD-SDI connections. What surprises are behind the covers? :hv20-smilie110:

Under the left side top over, it's a 6pin firewire port so you can connect firestore device (6pin firewire port provide power through the cable). The bottom one is the Component out for external display. On the right side is the usual LANC port, AV, 4-pin firewire and headphone.

The SDI is still a feature for the XH-G1s.

That's what I thought but the new box threw me.

@ Lunchbox. I understand that the money goes towards the site, I was just saying, I hope purchasing through the site helped out some towards that.
