Hello, I'm filming a Doc and am looking to purchase a partner for my HV30. This would be mainly for B-Roll. I would just get another HV30 but I have a sponsor who will buy the camera and keep it after we are done with it. The catch is he only wants to buy a camera with a hard drive. Since he's buying it I'm not going to be picky. But I would like to keep the cost down as much as possible in case something happens to it and I end up having to pay for it. What do you guys think? I have access to an HF10 at a good price. Would that be sufficient? If not why, and what would you suggest?
Thanks in advance,
Mike

Your sponsor is an idiot for wanting an HDD-based cam. I don't know how access to the HF10 can help you as does not have a built-in HDD.

Wow, thanks for pointing that out. I should definitely have worded that differently, So lets try this again. My sponsor (the idiot) wants a "Tapeless" Canon Video Camera.
If anyone has anything helpful to ad it would be greatly appreciated.

The HF10 is a good cam. You will need an NLE that understand AVCHD, or a transcoding utility.

Can anyone respond with specific advantages of choosing One model over another to partner with the HV30?

Get an HF S10 or HF S100 over the HF10 as it provides zebra support. There is a small improvement in recording quality (24M verses 17M). There is also a small dial that can be used to do some manual focus adjustments that the HF10 doesn't have.
