I did a search and the one thread that seemed useful seemed a bit outdated (2007). Is there an easy method to encode my video to a good quality format that the ps3 will read? Even better, is there a preset in compressor that I can use or modify to make it easy on my end? The one method I saw you had to use multiple programs to get a video that would work...shouldn't compressor be able to do it on its own?

Did you look at the sticky?

It would help if you told us what you were using to edit instead of using vague terms like " compressor".

sorry, I thought by posting in the mac section that using "compressor" was clear enough to mean compressor the application. I'm looking to make a file that's playable on my ps3 through the network or at least through a flashdrive, not actually burn a bluray disc.

You gotta be joking...

Compressor is the Mac application that comes with Final Cut Studio, just about any Mac user who has experience with video editing would know that.

beh....having to pay for presets? there has to be a way to do it for free! thanks for the link to their discussion boards, I didn't think to check there. I'm trying the "for apple devices" setting for appletv hd and I guess that'll do for now, but if anyone knows how to make high quality 1080/720 video (to use through flash or hard drive and not a bluray disc) I'd appreciate it.

edit: no dice on that.

You can either capture direct to MT2 with DVSCap or using MpegStreamClip to convert existing FCP captured clips.

I run through this tool in a video here:

i use toast and burn my content to dvd using blu-ray so i get the quality without having to pay the price.

the one plus avchd has over the HV series is that you can watch them straight from the camera on the ps3. 1080p video looks great on the ps3, and plays real well.
never tried to do it on to flash or hd though.

Well, EXCUSE ME! The only MAC I know ends with Donalds.
