Hi all,

This is my first post here - this site is a great source of all kinds of information!! I'm very glad to have found it.

My first realization around the HV series is that Best Buy isn't even carrying them anymore. :( There wasn't one HV camera in all of the Best Buys within a 100 mile radius, and there's at least 10 stores around me. I thought it was kind of rude when one salesperson looked at me like I was from another planet for even asking about a Mini-DV cam. After all, they are soooo yesterday... (rolling eyes). I am in a situation where I needed to buy from them, otherwise I would have gone elsewhere!

So, after accepting the fact that I wasn't going to get an HV cam from BB, I started looking at my other options and finally went with the HF20. This cam is NOT the HV20 - but it has enough of the features I need to make it a viable choice. Right off the bat there are some differences that bug me, like not being able to lock shutter speed or aperture like you can on the HV20.

But, there are many features that are the same, and many things about the HF20 that I like. This forum has many tips that apply to either cam, so that's good too. Eventually I hope to add a 35 adapter to the cam as well.

Anyway, just thought I'd say hello. LOVE the forum. :)

Er, that cam is in every was better than the HV20. (except for the freaks who want bitrate bitrate bitrate!) It has identical ap and shutter controls to the HV20. You can't use both at the same time.

Great. I am ordering one today I think. I was going to get the HV40 but my PC doesn't even have a firewire port. I think I'm going to roll with the HF20.

Can someone please confirm that the picture quality on the HF20 is better than the HV20? I have had a HV20 for almost 3 years now and I think the the PQ is stunning!

I am in the market to buy a second smaller cam than the HV20 for outside use only, however the review in Camcorderinfo was quite disappointing and the HFS100 is more than I want to spend.

There is no way to try before I buy in the country were I live so you comments are important.

Thanks

It is nice with a convenient size and media (HDSD cards), but I don't think this camera is "better" than the HV20, given the differences in the size of their sensors
