This problem was never resolved.

When I view footage captured off of my HV20 in Adobe Premiere Pro 3 the video looks slightly off as far as CONTRAST and BRIGHTNESS compared to playing it back in VLC or Windows Media Player.

Why is this?

Is Adobe Premiere's interpretation the most honest?

I can't say with certainty, but I have a feeling Adobe's representation is the most accurate. VLC and WMP generally aren't very reliable when it comes to color rendition.

To me, Premiere looks accurate (what it will look like on my TV).
After Effects CS4, otoh, looks wrong when viewing MPEG2.
