Hey, my new computer has HDMI out. Is it a "safe" thing to hook it up to my HDTV with an HDMI cable and use it as my monitor? I'm confused because I've read several different blogs stating that you shouldn't do this, and some saying that it's perfectly fine. Just wondering what ya'll think. My HDTV doesn't have DVI in, just VGA, S video, HDMI, and of course composite.

That will work fine. In fact, we bought a new 42" Vizio with 3 HDMI ports. We connected it with our laptop HDMI out for 1920x1080. It looks great.

Awesome!! That's what I was planning on doing. The thing that got me confused was when I was setting up the computer, the manual said at the top, "Connect the monitor using ONLY ONE of the following cables: the white DVI cable OR the blue VGA cable" I'm assuming that connecting with HDMI is perfectly fine, seeing how my computer has two hdmi ports in the back. What else would they be for?

I have a 42 inch Vizio 1080P TV that has been hooked up to my desktop through RGB for about a year, but this weekend I got a new desktop with HDMI out which is a little better.

I wiill never go back to a regular monitor again. Everyone that has come over thinks it is the best idea ever.

I just need to figure out the whole color managment thing through HDMI. Aren't compter and TV different color spaces?

HDMI port does not mean your graphic card supports 1920x1080.
Something to be aware of when one buys a graphic card.

I belive one of the options in a HDTV's settings, is to read colors in the same way as a computer?

I've just hooked up my comp to the HDTV through HDMI and it looks great!! However, no sound. Maybe it's something easy that I've overlooked. I thought the beauty behind HDMI was the fact that it transfers audio as well as video. Am I wrong, or is it something as simple as adjusting something on your computer. I've googled it, and several posts have said that it transfers video AND audio easily.

Is your sound card / motherboard connected to your graphics card? It can't get audio from thin air. ;)

good point! I'm sure it was just confusion because HDMI does carry audio and video but only when the source is sending both signals!
