View Full Version : Best way to set up a mixed HV20/8mm tape project?

hi... i could use some advice from the collective...

i'm putting together a short film (5-10 minutes) that will combine footage i shoot with my HV20, some old 8mm Video (i have the original tapes and an old 8mm camcorder), still images i'll grab through a flat-bed scanner, and some other non-dv/4:3 material

the final project will be burned to a regular NTSC DVD (non-hd)

the question is: what's the best way to set up this project? i'd like it to be widescreen (16x9) so an anamorphic DVD, i guess, which means the old 8mm video needs to be pillarboxed (yes?)

its all simple assemble editing... i have both imovie HD and FCS (i can probably get FCS2 if that makes any difference)...

i'd like the shooting i do with the HV20 to be in 24p, so HD, but i don't need to keep the total project in the HD space since the output will be regular DVD

i'm all confused and the short bits i've tried to put together are all mucked up in aspect ratio, etc.

help?! (smile)

thanks!

Robin, how have you been digitizing your (you say 8mm: I assume you mean Hi-8?) non-digital footage? Have you tried rerecording the footage through the HV20 onto HD?

Again, I haven't done this so I'm curious: what happens if you plug in the Hi-8 camera/deck to the analogue inputs of the HV20 and rerecord the footage? If it works, you should have a 16:9 aspect ratio, timecode and a digital version of your old footage.

If it doesn't work…oh well.

Let us know if you come up with a solution.
