I just ordered this Dell notebook.

It's the third configuration with 2GB RAM, 120GB hdd, 9-cell high capacity RAM, WXGA+ Screen (1440x900). I added a web cam and bluetooth so the final total is $699. It was a great deal for a solid computer.

Looks like a super deal. Now you'll be able to capture and edit directly from your events :hv20-smilie03:

It's amazing how quickly laptops have now surged way ahead of desktops in sales.

I just received the laptop today. It's a really solid laptop. It might not be the prettiest but it is solid. I will test the capablity of HDV editing.

Well, for me, I use the Bait and Switch method to edit video in Premiere. I converted all the HDV to a low resolution AVI using MS Video 1 codec. Then edit those avis in my laptop for the rough cut. When done, move the project file back to desktop. Premiere will ask me where are those AVI files. Then I will point it to the HDV .m2t files.

It works very well. I did it often so I can sit in starbucks to edit the video instead of sitting at home everyday. :)

That's a pretty smart workflow, I'll have to try that. Starbucks as your HQ sounds cool too.:hv20-smilie77:

Have you tried the NeoHDV program from Cineform. I'd be curious if the laptop could handle the editiing with that set up. Cineform make larger AVI file, but it is supposed to edit easier than HDV.

the cineform license activation and deactivation will be quite a hazzle if u dont want to pay for 2 licenses. since i wont be using the laptop for final production, it will be fine to create these smaller avis for portability and rough cuts.

i ordered matrox rt.x2 card. its on the way. so i wont be investing any cineform product.
