HV20 Local User Groups AKA... HV20 'LUGs'
Some forum members have expressed an interest in the creation of, participation in and management of HV20 Local User Groups.
Such physical user groups could significantly augment the online forum in many positive ways. For one, I , as a relatively new HDV user would really enjoy the sharing of knowledge, experience and even production time with fellow HV20 users.
I'll take it upon myself to organize the formation of a USA-DC-Metro Chapter of the HV20 LUG.
Though somewhat experienced in this task, I'd appreciate any locals to DC-Metro stepping forward to help out . I really want to keep it as informal as possible and will defer to forum MODs for guidance regarding rules, restrictions etc.
If this idea catches on, obviously more HV20 'LUGs' will simply emerge. That would allow for broader collaboration - HD capture and editing goodness etc.
I'll kick things off by titling a thread "USA DC-Metro Chapter of the HV20 LUG"
Hopefully, others will follow suite.

I'm planning to do coverage of the Anti War Protest in Washington DC on Sept 15th. Anyone interested in collaborating on covering this event? I'm happy to play any role and of course, can bring my HV20 or leave it and do interviews, lighting , audio or grip.

Oh well! At least I roped some non-video literati into helping me out. Sun is shinning and the rain is gone so lighting shouldn't be an issue ;)
Later...

Was about to hit the sack tonight when some kind of a bust was going down outside the building. Excellent view of 5 cop cars and a perp being arested and shaken down ala 'COPS' the TV show. I was sorely tempted to whip out the HV20 but dammit! I did enough work already. Too bad, it would have made awesome test of nightime/action footage! No matter, around here it's common stuff, LOL !

I'm hanging out at a friend's place- Flower Hill & Midcounty Hwy. I used to live in Bethesda. Always wanted to know what the other half lived like- Heh! Now I know. I would have whipped out my lights- after all, you don't think COPS is filmed with available light do you ? Yes I know low light = Gain= Noise. Sometimes noise is gritty= Good!

Hi Guys,
I'm in Bethesda, MD and eager to learn more! So, if you decide to hold a meeting, just put me on the list! My schedule is a bit tight because we're going on a trip to India in January...but even if you have a meeting (on a weekend? in the evening?) I might be able to make it.
Let me know, ok?

All good Glenn. You get to learn and meet even before you get this little gem in hand. Stay tuned for an update just before Christmas.:hv20-smilie77:

I have PM'd everyone who posted to this thread up to January 24. If you are reading this after January 24, or have not seen the PM, contact me directly by email with your contact info as I have started to put together a contact list. I have found about 12 people on various forums so far and most of us live in Maryland for some reason. Once I have enough responses I'll send out a questionnaire so we know a little bit about each other and our equipment and then we can try and find a date that we can meet.

I live in Silver Spring near Olney, Rockville, Bethesda, etc. I'd really love to be part of this group. I have a lot to learn and will appreciate any support you folks can offer.
This is my first post to the list. I bought my HV20 last Christmas and intend to edit on my MacG5. I have iMovie '08 installed and FCE HD. I'm considering buying FCE 4. My main concerns right now relate to the compatibility of the HV20 and its features to the MacG5 (OS Tiger 10.4) with these software packages. I also bought FC Pro 5 on sale at time of purchase of my system (about 2 years ago, but I haven't even installed it yet. The only editing I've tried is with iMovie '06 and FCE HD, editing from older vhs tapes.
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts.
Don
