4GB ADATA Super SD HC-Secure Digital SDHC Card
moira,
I think that's the wrong size.
There's three different sized SD cards. Normal (that's the one you mention above), mini SD (the one needed for the HV20), and there's micro SD (tiny thing).
You NEED the mini SD like this one:

That price is amazing, and you probably won't find something THAT cheap in NZ, but 1GB is probably all you really need. In fact, 512MB is a lot too.
Many miniSD cards come with an adapter which takes them up to standard SD size. this is helpful if you have/want a USB SD card reader to connect the miniSD card to your computer.

Unless you're going to use the camcorder for shooting a lot of stills, I don't see a need for investing in a really large minsd chip. I bought my 1 gig over at Best Buy the other night for about $34. That may be much higher than Internet prices but I was in a hurry and you pay for convenience.
With that said, I may find that pressing the photo button occasionally may get to be a habit since the HV20 actually takes higher resolution than my still digital. If that turns out to be the case, than I may purchase a larger SD but right now I bought it so I could do manual shutter & aperture adjustments. Guess I'll wait and learn from some experience.

I love the rapid fire picture taking of the HV20.

There's got to be a good one in there somewhere. :D
Wow, based on your "click,click,click,click,..." comment I checked this out.
THAT'S AMAZING!!! I set the shutter to 1/100 and that IS fast!
Neat, more new cool stuff discovered every day! :)

You got me there. Maybe it duz matter that I take a lot of stills. click click click. is it really that easy. can you really take them as fast as you can click. on my canon powershot, it seems like forever before i can click again.
With the HV20 you can set it to Rapid Fire (or whatever it's called), and simply holding the button down will take a rapid succession of a half a dozen or so shots. Keep in mind that it takes them so fast, that the cam won't have time to readjust focus - so whatever you chose in the first frame will be carried over to the other frames.
I was surprised how fast it takes them! It's FAST!!

I shot an F/A-18 being catapulted off a carrier deck and at 1/100. I got six pictures in before it was airborne. LOL

Was the carrier docked in Norfolk when you got the shots? Ha! What peer? That's where I did a couple years of sea duty out of when I was in the gator fleet (APA228 USS Rockbridge) way back in the 60s.

I did four years at NAS Oceana with VA-55 and we deployed on The Coral Sea (has since been decommissioned). That was 1987-1991. I'm a vet of the first Gulf War. Wish we'd been allowed to finish the job back then.

Thanks for that Mal,I think I saw the word super and thought it must be super powered or something, now how sad is that:hv20-smilie02: LOL
There are plenty of kingston around and I'll go for a 2G.Blue_grass,I'm hoping to take just one camera on the trip,I have a huge panasonic FZ20 and don't want to look .....well..too professional. ( Dave can take what he wants, I'll call his camera backup).Ive been impressed with both stills and frame grabs from this little camcorder. Another thing might be handy is taking the minisd into photography centres overseas and have them processed as we go.Duzzit_Madder and Mal,great tips to look out for when the HV20 arrives. And I had to laugh at all that clicking:hv20-smilie87:

Refresh me. I'm kind of a little out of it right now, you know Friday night and all. I just wondered where we were going with our stuff.

I think I was saying that I might use a larger minisd for stills, especially on a long trip. I had the feeling you didnt take many.

So would something like this work? It's Mini-SD HC.

No, I don't think that would work as it's miniSDHC; right from the auction page:
Compatibility:
miniSDHC card is incompatible with legacy miniSD devices.
Use miniSDHC card only with miniSDHC compatible devices.
Legacy miniSD cards can also be used with miniSDHC compatible devices.
I believe the HV20 is just normal miniSD.
But this one is at least the right size! :)

Sweet thx. There are also some non SDHC 4gb miniSD cards listed, but seller issues a warning that not all devices are compatible (or some need a firmware upgrade). 2gb sounds like the safest bet, though 4gb isn't much more money...
Yeah, 1GB is what I've got, and it's plenty big.
I haven't checked, but I think you can take something like 2400 images with a 4GB card. Seems a bit overkill! :)

Yep, I ended up picking a 2gb Sandisk Ultra II from a store near work. Saved the hassle of waiting for the postman. Stores around 2000 images, I reckon it should be enough LOL.

See page 53 in the manual regarding the limit of the number of images on the card you can d/l to a computer from the camera. A card reader might help. I can't imagine having more than 1,800 images stored on my card...lol
