Besides FC, of course.
For now, I'm using DVHSCap to import, but it does it as one file.
How do you then separate all the clips? I'm assuming it's going to be all manual, but I'm wondering if anybody has a quick workflow.
It would be sweet if there was an application like HDVSplit for the Mac...

I use both HDVxDV and DVHSCap on my Mac to capture HDV, and MPegStreamClip to transcode smaller clips.
HDVxDV is a piece of Shareware at around $80, and it will perform BOTH functions.
DVHSCap is freeware (part of the Apple Firewire Software Developer's Kit - "SDK") as is MPegStreamClip. Using these you need both one to capture and one to split and transcode to any other Quicktime Codec you have installed. There are a couple of other useful apps in the Firewire SDK.
I hope this helps.

and I found the others thru the forums on the Apple site.

If it also does pulldown, wouldn't it also take out the JES Deinterlacer step as well? That would be nice.
Right now, I use:
Capture: DVHSCap
Transcode: MPegStreamClip (AIC)
Pulldown: JES

Well I haven't sued HDVSplit I basically assumed (from your post) that it did what StreamClip does allow you to select part of a larger clip and export that portion alone.
HDVxDV let's you capture in one step and alter resolution at the same time if you want and then trim a large captured clip into smaller ones for transcoding. It doesn't do inverse telecine But it IS supposed to support 24P original footage. ie: the JVC HD100 for instance, I'm not sure about the Canon 24F. . .
It sounds like you have all of the Mac freeware. If you had HDVxDV it sound like it would do what two of your current apps do but you'd still need JES for inverse telecine.
I don't know of any other apps to suggest.

Is there a utility that can process the files imported via DVHSCap and splits them into scenes ?
Just don't want to go into an hour worth of footage to look for a single shot.

You got Final Cut Studio? Import that file into a bin, double click to bring it into the viewer then Mark > DV Start/Stop detection. It will not really split up your footage (can make sub-clips though), but sets markers. You can jump from marker to marker then.
However, IIRC, this only works with DV footage, as it is not needed for everything else (split is automatic on ingest in iMovie & FCP).
You don't have log sheets?

Nope dont have log sheets :-(
And its HDV.
I was really hoping I could split them up properly as I want to view them and only convert the files I need to Cineform.

Uhm, hold on, you are talking Mac here, right? Why don't you simply use the tools that you have on board. What software are you editing with? Don't need no Cineform, we got ProRes, or do you share your footage with a PC guy? Premiere Pro should be able to open ProRes on the Windows side. Dunno about Vegas.

I do have FCP. It is unfortunately very flaky in importing from the camera directly. The rest of my workflow is CF, so I'm simply trying to be consistent.
I found a ffmpeg script that can detect scene changes, I'm going to see if a script can be written.

How's that?
The capture engine is pretty solid. Problems come up most often with flaky cables and/or FW ports. Besides that, the only time we had real trouble was when we went from 4 to 5 (or was it 3 to 5?), and FCP didn't want to recognize our Canon cams anymore (Sonys worked). Solution was to roll back a QT update and wait for Apple to fix the issue (happened a couple of days later).
