Dropping frames

I shot footage on a Canon GL-2 and GL-1 and am loading it up on my new Mac Pro Final Cut Studio system. Some tapes have no problem and load smoothly. Other, get about a minute or two in and final cut stops and tells me, Frame Rate dropped.
Is this because i am using a zr-80 as my deck for uploading and the tape was shot using a GL1 or 2. Would that cause the conflict? All Canon products.
What can I do to stop the dropout and to load the full hour tapes successfully?

Try a new firewire cable, that usually works for me. For some reason those things seem to have a life of about 3 months.

Either that or you have some bad tapes.

Thanks skinnyboy. I'll have to give that a try. Hopefully it's not the tape.
