Hi Everyone
I'm only a two day member, don't even have the HV20 yet (but can't wait for September!). I will play with it for a couple of months, see what it can do, but it's clear from what I've seen on this forum that the adapters produce really amazing images, so I will probably invest in one down the road. I won't be building my own, as the last time I tried to do anything with my hands I nearly knocked down a building. So it seems like the Brevis or the Redrock will be the best way to go. Does anyone have any comparative experience (or just any informed opinion) on the two? Also, I'm wondering, what criteria do you use to choose the lens to use with the adapter? Thanks in advance to everyone. I've already learned a lot by just reading for the last few weeks.

Adapters:

I haven't used Brevis, but I have used Letus35a. Letus is vibrating ground glass like the Brevis. I haven't used Redrock, but I built one from their plans as a guide, and their spinning disk is sold with the plans.

I've been shooting Letus primarily for months, but when something broke in it, I shot with the spinner unit. I was actually surprised that the spinner unit appears to produce a better image. I do use an extension tube of about 5 inches, and that gives me ability to zoom in closer to avoid vignetting that I can't seem to avoid with the Letus set up. I'm wondering myself, how people with the Brevis/HV20 are doing. Anyone ?

Brevis vs SGPeo vs M2 shootout. (http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/showthread.php?t=81526&page=9&highlight=brevis+m2+sgpro)

I don't know if Redrock did any improvement on M2 since then, but Brevis and SGpro were sharper and had smaller light loss than M2...acording to that dvinfo thread.
So ,i would go for Brevis if i were you.

Thanks for the link. I read it closely, and it sounds like you're right. The Brevis is the way to go, especially with the HV20.

I have really enjoyed the footage on the Redrock site...it has some really top notch stuff.

Both adapters seem to work wonderfully (judging from footage...I wish I had both to test out). It looks like you can use the Brevis indoors but it might be too bright for sunny days. I also wonder if the Redrock's image will ultimately be sharper because it has a spinning disc.

Good luck and let us know what you get!

I don't think Redrock would be sharper than a Brevis for that reason, simply because Brevis and also other vibrating adapters have an intelligent GG holder that vibrate onlly in the focal plane. Therefore, there is no vibrating movement along the lens's/camera axis.

Does this one also have a spinning disc?

There's also a M2 vs. Brevis shootout (http://gearbrain.blogspot.com/2006/11/redrock-m2-vs-cinevate-brevis.html) here ...

Yes, it does. From what I read it's the best shot, but you have to wait till 15th of December if you order now...

Another question: What are step rings called in German? I need to get from 43mm to 72mm.
