Hey Filmtastic,

I'd be glad to help. I just purchased mine and had the same exact issues. This what I did. Grant it, I'm using 4.5 but you should still have the same options.

1. Go to audio/video settings within your project
2. Sequence Preset should be DV NTSC 48 - 24
3. For Capture Preset choose DV NTSC 48 KHZ Advanced (2:3:3:2) Pulldown Removal

That should work for you. I've captured successfully and exported test sequences and it's worked out fine. I have the letterbox bars in my test sequences that I don't know how to get rid of, but I like it as such.

I hope this helps out. I can't say I've been helped too much of late on this forum, so good luck.

Yeah I am pretty pissed about this too, why can't it just be simple? Why does there have to be strings.

I still don't understand how this whole thing works. Could someone please explain it to me? I've been here for a while and nobody has really clearly answered this question yet.

I have to get this straight before I get the camera, what are the problems with 24p footage in Final Cut Pro 5? First I hear you can't capture it, then I hear you can't edit it, then I hear there is absolutely no problem and the whole "remove pulldown" thing is just optional and there is no real reason for people to do it.

I've asked about a thousand times and people give me different responses every time, please explain this to me before I get the camera. I'm not up for going through some unbelievably complicated like the whole pulldown thing, because frankly I've read about it and I don't understand it. One minute you need to do it and the next you don't.

Anyways, we are spending a lot of money on this camera so I'd really like to get some info on whether or not I'm going to be able to edit my footage.. -_-

You CAN use your HV20 with Final Cut Pro, but there are several steps. Please visit the following link to read all about it.

For additional insight, go to the South Florida Final Cut Pro User Group site,

Good luck to you all.

My HV20 pops up fine in FCP5 on my Powerbook 12". And other apps.
I even used it as a webcam in skype.

Under apps/utilit/ there is an app "system information" or something. There u should see your device under firewire.

beta75, If you don't mind me asking how did you get skype to recognise your HV20?

Thanks,

Hi everyone,

This is my first post here so please forgive me if we've gone over this a million times. I ran a few searches and couldn't come up with quite the advice I need. So if anyone is feeling helpful, I would be so grateful.

I have FCP5 and have edited some Standard Def anamorphic files that were shot on a DVX and sent to me as quicktimes. Howver, I CANNOT get FCP to print to tape on my hv20. The camera just will not seem to start recording no matter which settings I try. Any advice?

Thanks so much! :hv20-smilie51:
