I just ordered the Brevis and have some questions.

I think it will be weird to shoot with a flipped image. Do you get used to shooting with a flipped image for those of you that have adapters that flip the image?

Won't it be a pain in the butt to mount the camera upside down?

I was told I can adjust the micro switched on the LCD to flip the image back to normal (while capture is still flipped). How do you adjust them?

The Cinevate forums (http://cinevate.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=518) are the best place to find answers to your questions about the Brevis.

Mounting upside down: The avoids the need to flip the image after capture. NeoHDV from Cineform does do the flip, and it costs about $250.00. It also captures in a great editing intermediate file. Highly recommend it.

There is a mod to flip the view finder. It requires you to open the hinge cover, and devising a method to switch dip switches. I have done it, and the dip switches are real fragile. You actually have to do it with two switches to flip image, and to flop it left for right. It is a PITA.

Instead of doing that, I bought a portable battery operated DVD player with video in, that I use as a monitor. It is a Polaroid that I bought at Walmart for about $ 100. It has a flip image function that works to even if you don't shoot camera upside down.

I used to be a studio still photog- spent 18 years looking at upside down images under a dark cloth- your brain actually gets used to it though I bet upside down moving images takes a LOT of getting used to LOL !

I have the Brevis also (which I totally love), and yes, it's a pain to shoot things upside down... I actually am opting to buy a external HD monitor - the best option is the one that Bruce Allen is making (in my opinion). He's doing some really cool stuff, his price is great, plus he has an HV20 so you know it's going to be great! :)

I think he's going to be making them available in the next couple of weeks, so if you're interested it's worth pinging him...

That looks huge compared to the camera. How would you carry it around and use it without it becoming cumbersome?

For night clubs I won't need this but for other projects.... yeah I can see it being useful.

There is another problem I will have to tackle... shooting with Digital EOS lenses. I'll have to shoot with them wide open since I can't control the aperture manually. Anyone else using digital lenses? In bright light, I may break the 1/48 rule :-)

Is this the polaroid? Looks big too. How are you walking around with this without it getting in the way?

I'm looking to move into the world of HD shooting, and I'm thinking about the HV30 with the Brevis adapter. One thing that has me a bit hesitant, is that I'm not sure how portable the whole setup is. It looks great for shooting off a tripod, but how is the system if you need to pick it up, throw it over your shoulder, and start shooting?

Hello, Since this is a Brevis thread, I figured I'd let you know about a Brevis Group on Vimeo that has been started. Vimeo has gained alot of popularity with videographers, cinematographers, animators, and other artists. Please consider joining.

In my opinion, it is very difficult to get used to shooting while viewing an upsidedown image on the LCD. Try mounting your HV20/30 upsidedown. I am fortunate enough to have the Brevis Flip Module and I absolutely love it. Someday, I hope to get a decent HD LCD monitor to help with framing composition and mostly critical focusing. I do ok with what I've got though. The hoodman with magnifier helps with the focus some too.

I just got the HV30 and have a DVD monitor to hook it up to since I can barely see the LCD screen. I'm having issues though getting anything to appear on the monitor. It works fine when I'm playing stuff that I've already recorded, but I get a black screen when I try to see a live image. Any suggestions?
