View Full Version : HF10 or 100: Is this possible? (Ext. Out/Menu/Settings)

Hi everyone,

Can someone with an HF10 or HF100 look at these questions and give me some details?

Is it possible to record with sd card slot open?
If you leave the slot open and close the lcd screen, does the camera go into standby mode?

Moreover:

Will the camera start/stop recording if both the sd slot is open and the screen is closed (assuming it doesn't go onto standby mode)?

I ask these questions as I read somewhere that closing the screen will put the camera into standby mode, but leaving the sd slot open might stop this... I'd like to use the hdmi or component out and not have the little screen draining the battery, so would like to close the small screen, but this is dependant on the above answers...

At the moment I only have component inputs on an external screen, so the component part is of most interest to me. But as this is only accessible with the screen open this negates most of my previous questions for now (although i'm sure other hdmi external monitor users would be interested).

So leads onto a simpler question:

Can the lcd screen be turned off?
If not with a button, then by depressing a small notch or something?

Ok, more settings based questions:

Its possible to use the 25p frame rate with a mode (like Sunset or Spotlight), isn't it? But can this be done in conjunction with Aperture Priority mode (AV)?

Meaning you have 25p AV in Spotlight/Sunset mode?

Cheers, hope I made sense.

You can use 25p in any mode. You can't capture video with opened sd slot. You can disable standby mode, so closing display won't sleep camera. Or you can start recording video and then close display, this will also prevent camera from sleeping :)

I didn't think of asking if you could disable standby mode... thanks for that info.
No way of manually turning the screen of though?

EDIT: And as for 25p in all mode; perfect.

When you close the screen, the screen will go off.

Yes, but if the screen cannot be closed, e.g. there is a component cable plugged in, then i'd still like to be able to turn the screen off...

As I said above.

I understand...You could still do this with HDMI, since it's located on the right side of the body.

Again, I'm not using HDMI atm, just component for now.
Most of my questions in the first post were answered, except this one.

I was responding to your first post:

I do tend to put alot of info my posts, sometimes too much, but I did try to explain myself a little furthur on.
I left it in for those that might like to know, who have the use of HDMI for with an external monitor...

Maybe you can still do the HDMI out with the Standby Mode disabled/LCD screen closed and get an adapter or converter to the component ins.

I didn't realise there were HDMI to component adapter/convertors...
But having googled it I see that some people are making convertor boxes and some are making cables.

Not sure if I could deal with another box (aka the convertor) on my rig, as i'm trying to keep it portable, but an adapter cable might be a good answer.

As long as the quality isn't aweful.
Plus, how does this work for resolution? I mean, this isn't an HD monitor i'm using as atm i'm using a fairly cheap dvd screen for framing.
So the image won't be scaled with any clever controller (like the pixelworks or MST controllers), so will the image appear the right size on this fairly low res monitor, or will I just get a small part of the entire HD output image?

I don't know, never tried.

APOLOGIES, i meant to say the monitor has a composite input.
But in the past I have tried plugging in the green component plug into the composite input of the screen and achieved a much clearer (albeit monochrome) image.

I will start a new thread with this new question in mind:
If had an HDMI output connected via an "HDMI to Component" cable to a composite input on a fairly low res external monitor, how would the image look and would the whole image be visable on the monitor?

The HDMI to composite converters all appear to be over $200.

Maybe there are cheaper gaming cables, like for the PS3 or Wii that are applicable.

Someone on this board should know.

As all my other questions are now answered in this thread (http://www.hv20.com/showthread.php?p=173663) i've started this one dedicated to that single question...
