Hi ,
I just got my HV20 and was trying to download footage on my laptop with XP home edition. However i get this error
"the video device can not be used at this time because there has been an error when starting the device"...I don't understand this ..DO I need anything more as to hardware or software?

I am connecting using a 4 pin- 4pin IEEE1394 from HV20 to my laptop. I do not see any menu path for Configuring the video device on movie maker.

Any help is highly appreciated...this problem keeps me from creating my first home dvd!!!:hv20-smilie50:
Thanks
Manoj

If you are trying to capture HDV with the WMM , forget about it. Only the Vista edition of the WMM can do it. If you shoot HDV but want to edit a standard DV, just set your camera to lock DV (play mode) and the XP WMM will do it.

Thanks Slimoli!
I am not sure how to lock DV when the shooting is in HDV. When connected thru IEEE94 I am in play mode only...is there a way to lock the playback in DV mode rather than HDV?
Thanks again for your help.

Welcome. WMM can be a good school if you have no experience with editing .

Try PowerDirector has identical intuitive interfase but fully supports HDV HV20 and you can do some cool advanced effects like PiP.

Hi - I use Windows Movie Maker and had no problem uploading footage to it from my HV20. I just plug in my firewire from my camera to the computer and turn on my camera to play. It recognizes it (you can hear the ding dong sound) and asks where I want to upload video. I then click the WMM icon.

I am shooting in DV mainly because all the film festivals, etc. don't have HDV yet for showing films.

Also, there is a forum devoted to WMM that is very helpful (just like this one!) that has showed me how powerful this little free program can be. I'm not sure if I can post that info, but do a search and it will come up. Good Luck.

Oh..forgot .. I'm on XP.
