Got my HV20 today! Looks like a very nice camera - Just charging the battery now. Can't wait to try it out. My first impressions? Well, it does feel very cheap, and I keep thinking I might break it if I look at it funnily, but apart from that, so far, so good.
I have a question, though... Is the camera supposed to rattle? I don't mean like there's something loose in there. But it rattles when I move it around. Try moving yours around with no battery and no tape and tell me what you hear.
Thanks, guys!

Yup; the OIS sounds a bit like a broken thermos when the cam is powered off ... fear not!
Also, it's more rugged than it looks ... check out this crash test (http://www.hv20.com/showthread.php?t=1323)!

Mine does not rattle, nor does it look or feel cheap.

Well there must be a problem with yours then as they all rattle when switched off

Agreed - not having a slight rattle/movement when it is turned upside down and around might not be a good sign.

I could be deaf? Or maybe I don't shake it hard enough?
Everything seems to work fine, though.

Pulled my paraglider out of the cab of my truck yesterday and the camera bag on top of my clothing tub tipped over, spilling the 20 out to bounce off the seat and ricochet off my thigh, clatter to the step, and tumble out onto the pavement. My heart stopped. It had the WA (with lens cover) and videomic (with deadcat) attached, other than some scratches, it appears to be okay.

I know this is being a little pedantic, but when the camera's on, with a tape in, but not filming or playing, there is this random, short, but very quiet "vvvmmm" sound coming from within the camera. Sometimes it doesn't happen at all... But I was just wondering what it might / could be?
Only reason I'm paranoid is that I bought this camera from one of those third party sellers on Amazon (who had AWFUL feedback), and only realised I had done this AFTER it'd shipped.

I got my HV20 a week back and noticed the same sound.
Good to know that this is not a problem. Phew!
Love the camcorder. The picture quality is magnificent

'Tis normal me thinks... :hv20-smilie03:

Personally, I have a penchant for being pedantic.

It is probably the heads spinning so that it is ready to go as soon as you hit the red button. It turns off after a minute or so.

I sure hope it's something like that, and not something serious.
On a different note, I properly tested the HV20 out yesterday, and everything seemed fine. I haven't managed to upload any of the footage yet, but suffice to say, I think it's going to be a little while until I'm the next Spielberg! :hv20-smilie87:
