Well not all that close but not bad for a video camera.
I had a CrystalVue monocular lens from another camera, so I screwed it on to the end of the hv20 with a 43-46 adapter and this is what I got. It is a little slow as not much was happening on the moon.
I used a tripod but it still has a little shake. I was on a wooden deck by myself and didn't walk but it is noticeable. The moon is actually moving very quickly. No sound. The last part uses the digital zoom but the rest is with the optical zoom and the CrystalVue lens.

It Is Very Distracting When You Type With A Capital In Front Of Every Word.

Although that is amazing zoom, you should show us a slow zoom out next time, to show how far away it is.

Sorry about using title case, it is something we do here at work.
I will do a slow zoom this weekend if weather permits. I also will have to use the remote control. if you barely touch the camera at that zoom it moves a lot.

Beautiful clip man.
I sometimes forget to admire the moon and this video reminded me
how good it would be to return there.

That's pretty impressive !
I tried to obtain a similar shot last night (just using the HV20), but just doesn't come close to what you have achieved. The main problem I had was in setting the white balance, couldn't get the correct colour, came out more brown/orange than grey.
Could you possibly provide details of the settings you used on the HV20. I assume you were using manual exposure in order to bring out the moon's features. Were you focusing at infinity ?
Thanks.

Thanks to all for the kind comments.
I Don't remember what white balance setting I used. My camera is not with me today or I could tell you as I have not changed it since. I shot manual at F8. The moon is really very bright and easy to over expose. I also used the focus off of the CrystalVue Lens I used. I leave the camera on manual focus.
I shot some of the eclipse the other night but have not had time to edit or look at them. I did miss a cool shot when I was looking at the moon. A jet went in front of the moon right before I hit record. I did capture some Bats flying by.
Thanks Again,
Scott
