A test with the 5D Mark II.

Not a favourite subject according to this:
If I see another cat test on the 5DMarkII I'm gonna puke.. (http://hv20.com/showthread.php?t=19642)

However, it served several specific purposes (for me); which were:

1) test an old 200mm f/2.8 FD lens (eBay for $42.50) with a Bower FD to EOS adapter.
Result: very pleased, better than expected.

2) test suitability of resting cam on couch.
Result: unsuitable, cam needs total lock-down, especially at 200mm. Future use of IS will be a major benefit to DSLRs' video capability.

3) testing new YouTube HD embedding
Result: Does NOT work properly AT ALL. I could really do with some help with coding...:hv20-smilie51:

I"ve been meaning to get a cat. It's been on my to do list for years now. And when I do...I'm going to feel this forum up with furball footage.

Nice kritty krat tests, by the way.

Make sure you get a high definition cat though; threadhanger.
At least 1080p is what I recommend.

The only problem is that they need the special HD food.
Although some say they can run on the standard stuff, I only use
Whiskas HDCat Plus.
That's the lubricated version that apparently has some special HD additives.

Watch the movie I posted in the beginning of the thread, and I think you'll notice the difference!

By the way, Mal, now that you have a 5d is there a name change in order for HV20.com?

Definitely. If I had a cat allergy I'd be wheezing after looking at those. :hv20-smilie87:

That is one sweet adapter Mal. Did you make it yourself? What are the specs? Braceface probably popped a blood vessel when he saw this. Nice job :hv20-smilie77:

Oh my God. I've been sporadically seeing references to cat test videos and I thought, sooner or later I'll find out what a cat video is. Ya, I fell for it. I thought maybe a cat was a special printed test pattern and not shooting video of real cats. I'll be honest, not following the threads links and reading every post, I was too embarrased to ask "what is a cat test" for fear of getting clobbered by Cyclewriter.

In my case, since I'm a dog person, I'd like to see some dog video tests here. We could all show off what is probably a 100 or more different kinds of dogs that members here own.

ROFLMAO! :)

Besides, the highlights aren't even blown out (in the original footage).

Not too shabby for a frame grab, and a U$42.50 lens, in my opinion! :hv20-smilie77:

I didn't notice any blown out highlights, just whisper thin DOF that left part of the cat in focus and part out of focus.

It's an opposite way of thinking. For years you've been trying to open the aperture so you see some Bokeh, now you need to crank it down a couple of stops so that the subject is in focus but behind it isn't.

Exactly, Duke.

Although keep in mind that this was with a 200mm lens at a distance of maybe 1.8m.

(assuming you're talking about mine and not Lucasberg's)

Nice puppy.... burp.... Happy New Year.... burp....

Would you happen to have a side by side test with an HV30 for 720p output? Just curious of the differences given a 720p common ground. How close (or far) is the HV30 in comparison?

hmm, how about this for a test - anyone try attaching an adapter known for it's organic analog bokeh like the m2 or sgpro to this dslr? I guess this would be for people who don't like the digital look of the canon, but love it's color and low-light capabilty.
