Hey guys, Using a Samsung SC-MX20 just now and since I can't afford an HV20 just yet I want to mod up my current camera.

The lens reads:

Schneider KREUZNACH type
f=2.3 - 78.2mm F:1.6 30.5mm Diameter

I'm assuming the thread diameter is 30.5mm then so what sort of things can I buy for my camera, especially interested in a 35mm adapter but I know it's expensive so what are alternatives and such like?

Not to sound rude but why dont you go to a samsung forum and ask people that use them.thats like driving a ford and asking chevy owners how to mod a car they dont drive.lol

Not to sound rude or cynical but:

Greg,

What he's getting at is that no one has posted anything in these forum about the Samsung SC-MX20. In general no one talks about standard definition cameras here unless they are pro quality.

But, with a few adaptations, virtually anything that can be added on to the HV20/30 can be added to the MX20.

Generally you can look at the front of the camera and see thread size, then get a step up ring for a wide angle lense or 35mm adapter. Yes, yours appears to be 30.5mm. You'll have to look at your camera to see if it has HDMI, or a mic jack. If there's no mic jack your audio will be very limited. That will tell you what you can add to your camera from all the stuff mentioned on these various threads.

Honestly though if you want an HV30 in the future, don't spend your money on parts for the MX20 that might not fit. The step up ring for the HV30 is 43mm. Save the money for the HV30 and just make movies with what you have now. The HV30 will blow the socks off the MX20 so plan accordingly.

Best of luck.

I've actually been contemplating a Samsung SC-HMX20C myself. It takes larger still photos than the HV30, has a larger sensor, and encodes to MP4 format. Which for my purposes is a lot more usefull / easier to deal with.

Although at ~30mm-ish, just how much light is reaching that sensor? The advantage of the HV30 over many of it's cousins is it's sensor size, glass girth, and other attributes that makes it's low light sensitivity better than most. I'm still a bit torn myself given that each seems to have it's plusses an minuses. If I were to go by specs alone, the SC-HMX20C would be a top contender. FullHD OR SD, and 300fps slow motion, plus stills nearly 2x's that of the HV30. But lacking 24p, low light sensitivity kind of questionable, bitrate noticeably lower, focus speed slower, image stabilization electronic, not optical. And still undecided.

If it weren't for needing to ADD firewire to my hardware, needing to purchase tapes. Even though cheap over use can add up over time. Stills over USB, video over firewire, cell phone trick, all contained in a 60i wrapper, and it's looses it's momentum as well. Factor in not being able to hand off a tape to others to use for their purposes, and it's like my old grand am I used to have. Cheap to buy, cheap to run over the long haul, but one big money pit if actually used.

OK camera and i've figured out how to make the JAG35pro work with it. Also adding it to the HACKED list.

Did you find anything else on this camera? The only thing I found was that the thread ring size is a 49mm so you would have to buy either multiple step down rings or one step down ring from 49mm to 43mm which ebay has. (yeah it's from China, but it's made out of metal, so it's pretty durable, I have one)
