I have a smudge on my LCD viewfinder screen. I'm afraid to try and clean it and make it worse like on my old camcorder. What's the best way to wipe it clean, a damp lens cloth? Thanks!

Damp lens cloth (plain water unless the smudge is greasy, then maybe a drop of dish soap in the water - one drop only). I usually just use a damp microfiber cloth (again plain water) to clean my LCD's - even my computer (but only if they need it.) You can also get LCD solution and pre-moistened cloths, but tried some of that stuff years ago and it made the problem worse. Today's formula's could be better.
From what I understand, you definitely don't want to use anything with ammonia.

am·mo·nia
–noun Chemistry. 1. a colorless, pungent, suffocating, highly water-soluble, gaseous compound, NH3, usually produced by the direct combination of nitrogen and hydrogen gases: used chiefly for refrigeration and in the manufacture of commercial chemicals and laboratory reagents.
2. Also called ammonia solution, ammonia water, aqua ammoniae, aqua ammonia, aqueous ammonia. this gas dissolved in water; ammonium hydroxide.

Mmmmmm... tastes good :hv20-smilie71:

I use a 5% isopropyl alcohol solution to clean all of my visual display tech whether that be tv screens, lcd monitors, CRT monitors, or the small lcds on my digicams.

You can buy isopropyl (often marketed as rubbing alcohol) in chemists and pharmacies (drug stores for you North Americans out there) and then dilute the stuff with water to get it to 5%. The rubbing alcohol I buy is a 60% dilution already, so to get 5% you have to mix 1 part rubbing alcohol to 12 parts water.

Edit: I forgot to mention, get yourself one of those microfibre lens cleaning cloths as well, they are invaluable. Dab the 5% isopropyl with the microfibre lens cloth and wipe the LCD screen gently. The greasy fingerprints and other crud should come straight off.

I've posted this on many other forums. I use only one product for ALL my screens, TV's, Digicams, Camcorders and Monitors, not to mention plastic casings, and sometimes, when I'm in hyper-pimping mood, inside windshields- BRILLIANIZE is the product for me. :hv20-smilie03:
