Hi! I posted this on DVInfo last week, but I just found out about this forum and thought I'd upload it here.

http://hv20.info/yopu/NYApril720.mov

Shot in 24p, all automatic. Encoded in 720p at a fairly low bit rate, so some of the more complex shots of Central Park are unfortunately muddy with artifacts. Since hv20.info has a decent file size limit, I'll be sure to use a higher bit rate on my next movie.

NICE!! NY looking good!
Everytime I see footage, I'm amazed that it's coming from a $1000 cam. :)

By the way, the 250MB is not a hard limit I believe, you CAN go over that if you wanted to.

Thanks!

Here's another video I made today, a little less compressed than the first one (95mb):

I shot this one in Cinema mode, just to try it out. Although there's a pretty positive thread on Cinema mode over at DV Info, I'm pretty convinced that there's far less detail in this mode, no matter what you do to it in post. It's REALLY soft. I might play around with it some more, but I don't think I'll be cheating myself if I go back to the regular preset.

I agree, cine mode off, Tiffen soft fx 3 on. There is that interesting 'low light' thread (http://www.hv20.com/showthread.php?t=51). I'll have to test it but it sound promising.

Yeah, I found the same thing, although my finding weren't scientific at all, and not viewed on a HD monitor either. Just quickly looking at it, my initial reaction was "hmmm, I prefer non-CineMode I think...."

Cine Mode does give you better control though, it seems, as far as shutter speeds are concerned, according to Patrick's tutorial (http://www.hv20.com/showthread.php?goto=newpost&t=180).

I purchased my HV20 for everday use. I'm not a professional videoographer. Does anyone know whether or not Sony's Vegas Movie Studio will allow me to take advantage of 24p? It looks like everyone is talking about Vegas 7 and only Vegas 7. No, or little mention of Vegas Movie Studio. There is a big difference in price and again, I don't think I'll be needing all the features Vegas 7 (stand alone) has to offer.

Do you think that Vegas Movie Studio will eventually allow for 24p, or do you think that is only going to be available to Vegas 7 owners?

Thanks

Is it just me, or did the NY City footage look very low in contrast? So much so that it looked very hazy in many shots.

As for the second clip, it was shot in Cinema Mode, which I found to be very soft and low-contrast.

I thought the first clip was much sharper, but compression does soften it up. At some point maybe I'll post some quick shots at full-rez.

That footage was incredible. I would have thought it was a semi-pro camera. Incredible. I am astounded.

Given the quality of some of the pro footage shown on the BBC news recently, the news department should invest in a few HV20!

Blown away...

Ya know what, I think I am sold based on the Cine Mode clip. I'm getting a HV20! It actually is very similar to high end camera footage I have seen like the XL2 (even though that one isn't HD). It will be perfect for my music video business.

BTW, did you add any effects at all to that Cene Mode clip or is it purely raw footage?

Also, does anyone know why the rolling artifacts show up in this video footage? Is there a way to avoid it with this camera?
