I can't seem to locate in the manual how to set up scene profile custom presets and then save them nor to import and export them to the SD card. Anyone provide some direction to a link where someone might have covered this OR where in the manual this is?

I'm assuming you mean on the XH-A1 since you asked a prior question about that camera.
One way is download custom presets. Go to the end to get the latest ones and an XLS list from here:
http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/canon-xh-series-hdv-camcorders/126811-xh-custom-presets-download-library-copy-20.html
Then here:
http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/canon-xh-series-hdv-camcorders/126811-xh-custom-presets-download-library-copy-21.html
Then XLS list here:
http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/canon-xh-series-hdv-camcorders/126811-xh-custom-presets-download-library-copy-25.html
Copy them onto your SD card. There are well over 40 presets. Only 20 show up on a card. Multiple cards are one answer. Using the picture trick is another.
They must be labeled PRESETXX
There is a certain file folder name. It's listed in the thread. I don't remember it off hand.
Some of my favorites are:
Panalook
Reality
Truecolor
BleachBypass - silvery with a hint of color
Memories - Sort of sepia
Menu button - Left side of the camera in the bottom right corner.
wheel - back of camera, bottom left corner.
go to custom.
Then there are symbols along the left. You want the 'card' to 'camera' symbols.
If you take photos on the card you can use the image's metadata too.
Unfortunately there are about 20 different settings. Too much to discuss here. Look at what other people have done and look at this video to see what the different presets do.

Hope that helps.

Yes. Thank you so kindly for your interpretation. Dummy me. See why I can't seem to find it? And I'm supposed to be a a professional making 150+ videos a year . . geez! :(
Oh, and thank you so kindly. I will rummage through those links :)

Duke, any ideas where to get some good easy to understand videos and books on the XHA1. The manual isn't really the easiest of reads which is thusly pretty much like the complication of the camera. However, on the cameras defense, once set right produces some absolutely awesome video :)

I've heard that the Vasst DVD is good, but I haven't watched it myself.
There's a fairly complete, though basic, free series of How To clips on the A1 here:

After that I recommend playing with the camera every day.

GR8! That's what I'm talkin' about. I just need to know how to fanaggle through some of the menu's and after that I'll be good to go. I've used three other cameras and once I can get some of the features (like with the other cameras) I'll get "in there" and make some in roads and then be helping others do the same :)
Thanks gads for the input.

OMG, I nearly killed myself watching those videos. Thank you for the point to but the combination of the "commercials" which I WILL NOT watch online (and the reason I quite watching TV 6 years ago) AND the sloooooooooow process of the tutor (took 7 videos just to get the camera turned on) I was looking for a razon blade. Thankfully they were locked up :hv20-smilie36:
BTW, I only made it through 9 of them and I WILL NOT ever buy anything from Oral B that's a 4 SURE!

Further to this thread which I forgot to mention the camera (dummy me) I have managed to get the card initialized and have loaded a couple downloaded presets and when I try to import them, that option (CARD -> CAMERA) is greyed out. I have tried this in the Card Switch Mode and Camera Switch Mode and neither way does it make a difference, that is the card apparently isn't being seen. Also, I have loaded the presets onto the card in the root directory (that is no folder at all) AND in a folder named PRESETS (since I'd seen several folks mentioning something about a folder name.
Anyone have any suggestions? or clues to what I am doing wrong?

Those videos are on several web sites. I thought I gave you one with minimal ads. Either I'm confused (possible) or they've added the ads.
If I recall the folder should be PRESET (all caps, singular) If that doesn't work I'll look at mine this afternoon.

Using custom presets pg 76
Although, honestly, the manual is fairly useless.
Remember numbers 7-9 are predesignated, so you rotate in 1-6 from your card.

That's a BIG 10-4 !

What's this mean? 7 through 9 are not changable?
Well, I sort of figured the PRESET out by exporting a preset to the card and then pulled it and looked at it on the computer. Then loaded one in to see how it would work but the camera never saw it. That is, the PRESET folder only had in it the one saved off by the camera that I did (#5) and the one I put in there late last night (#20) but when I tried to load off the card, it only saw #5 as an option.
So, as I'm writing this, I'm just guessing that the camera can't see a two digit number and thus will have to go in and change the number to something of a single digit AND if I read what is stated above, that value has to be something less than 7 ?

I'd say read through the entire dvinfo thread I sent to you. Yes, it's long but has many things in it. That preset singular was in there, and many of the things you're asking. You can see the mistakes others have made.
Yes, 1-6 are the slots you move stuff into. 7-9 are predesignated and not for your use. My recollection is it can see 1-20 on the card, but it sees the names. When you move them onto the camera they are called PRESET1.CFG, etc.
It's GIGO. Must be all caps, their names system, right ending, etc. If you have your computer set up to hide endings of file names you might not recognize a problem.

I didn't get a chance to work on it today cuz of turning out two rush TV programs for Christmas airing but I definately will do some playin tomorrow. I'm just guess that if one wants 22 in then they take 22, park it in a folder, rename it to 4 and then put it in the file. Just guessing but it is neat that one can at least do their own set ups. For now, I just took the settings stated on the .xls and used that info and input the material manually. Heck that's cool enough but it would be nice to use that software to "make" some presets and also to quick load others and check them out :)
