I do not see the capture HDV setting for the CS3.

I have no problems capturing HDV m2t files in SpeedEdit 1.2.

I did have Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 preview on my Vista operating system.

Any ideas how to solve. I can not use the HV20 with CS3.

In Premiere Pro CS3

Start a new project.

You'll see the screen and on it it will have a selection that says HDV 1080 30p (60i). Check this one.

Then click OK.

Then go to File -> Capture

Make sure that your HV20 is plugged into your computer via Firewire and turned on in the play mode with the tape completely rewound.

Then if you want to capture the entire tape click the Tape button in the Capture window controls.

If not then use the controls in the Capture window to play your tape and select an In and Out point pair. Then click the In/Out button and the clip will be captured.

That should get your started in Premiere Pro CS3. :)

I thought I would see a drop down preset for the Canon HV20 in the capture menu. I have tried the HDV and DV "Locked DV" settings.

Maybe the preset was in Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0 and CS3 uses HDV 1080 30p (60i)?

Thanks for your help.

"if i want to shoot in 24p, is it as easy as jmorton mentioned above? or do i still have to do the whole pulldown thing?"

The capture process is as described above.

But then you need to remove the pulldown if you are working with 24p. Remember that when you remove pulldown using Eugenia's workflow that you only remove the pulldown from one clip at a time.

Be careful to make your captured clips a size such that when you remove the pulldown you do not run out of disk space. For a RAID 0 I'm planning on getting 5 x 750GB hard disk drives. Maybe even 5 x 1TB hard disk drives. I like to remove pulldown to uncompressed .avi.

I just create a 60i project for my 24p footage. I then import my uncompressed .avi 24p files and edit. The timeline automatically adjusts to 24p. When I'm done I export in H.264 or Flash or Quicktime, etc.

How does one do this "pulldown" if shooting in 24P? I use Premiere CS3 and capture using the 1080i (60) preset.

You ought to capture via HDVSplit, it works better than Premiere CS3, I assure you

But HDVSplit outputs .m2t files, which Premiere doesn't seem to support ...

Hi, use the Mpeg stream clip to make the avi.

But the Ulead Videostudio 11 captures the hdv ok.

Well, at least mine, does

Allows me to select the file, then comes up with the error message "File format not supported"

I actually tried again, and get same error message for all files I tried to import. Any ideas? Not much use if I can't get files into it and the capture from the HV20 didn't work either!!!

I don't have any problems opening HDV captured files in premiere. BUT, if you're going to do pulldown removal it doesn't matter anyway because you'll be re-encoding the footage anyway... and, if you can't open m2t files, then your premiere capture shouldn't work either, as it's the format premiere captures to.

i downloaded a trial version of cinemform and i was able to
create a new project that is actually called
Cineform HD....
when i used that, i was able to actual capture footage from my hv20.....

but i only have 2 weeks left untill cineform expires......

the trial version does not support HD mpeg files - either downloaded from the camera (won't) or trying to load from disk! Makes the trial somewhat useless ... I think I have same issue with Final Cut Express HD

Also loaded Vegas onto my Vista box, and it won't load ... just crashes. Looks like I go with Premiere.
