buy a simple flash bracket and you will minimize camera shake with a pretty affordable piece of equipment. it is not a device like a steadycam but it will definitely improve your handheld shooting.

I think thats a brill idea. Will be looking for a bracket next time I visit a camera shop.
Incidentally I dived into the web pages and came up with a Canon flashgun bracket, at £110 or ~$200, I don't think that was what you had in mind. Avoid branded goods!!!

I am using one of these (not the same brand) but I would like to find a way to attach the tripod "thingy" to my bottom bar. I see you seem to have such an attachment. Did it come with the grip?
If not does anyone have any good ideas how to firmly attach the "thingy" to the bar please?

the "thingy" is base plate which comes with this head http://www.manfrotto.com/Jahia/site/manfrotto/cache/offonce/pid/2376?livid=107|117&lsf=117&child=1
you just screw it to the flash bracket.

If I'm not mistaken, the base plate that you are talking about is usually proprietary to the tripod or tripod head that you usually screw to the bottom of your camera for mounting to the head of the tripod. With this bracket, I guess you would just move your tripod baseplate from the bottom of the camera to this bracket. The bracket and camera together would than attach to your tripod when you want to.

looks pretty good to me :)
do you just hold onto a L flash bracket grip?
or do you also support the cam with other hand?
could we possible add two brackets together to have two grips on each side?

I think the one I've got is a Hama too, brilliant bit of cheap kit.

It's not a U-grip - it's an L-grip. http://www.adorama.com/FABL.html?searchinfo=l%20bracket&item_no=5
And Rikki if you ever put all that stuff on the hood of my car, I'll kill you! :hv20-smilie36:

of course you could add another bracket on the other side; but how do you control the buttons then?

That is a particularly nice looking bracket. What brand did you use?

I think i will buy a spare base plate and fix it to my L grip. Also I have now made myself a two handed "rig" ( poor mans).
I have loaded it up with a couple of DIY lights and my Rode mic just as a demo. I always try to keep my mic off camera to avoid the camera noise which I have not yet managed to quell. BTW I fix the DIY lights with Velcro though i do have some bent metal mounts that fit into the cold shoe.
The cold shoe fittings i got for a dollar each. i bought old cameras from an op shop an took off the cold shoe and threw away the camera.
You can see it at
