I got my HV 20 2 days ago. I have windows 2000 sp 4. When I try to capture hdv the various software I have tried see hdv as dv only and the capture fails. When I try to capture dv, in terms of video quality, everything works for Ulead 10, kind of ok for TMPGEnc Author 3 and Cyberlink Power Director has a bunch of thick solid lines in the video, but at least they all capture something. I am using a Belkin Pure AV firewire that I also just bought for $15. The device manager shows Microsoft dv camera with a driver date of 11-14-99, driver version 5.0.2183.1 when the camera is hooked up to the fire wire. So I wonder if the Windows 2000 driver is adequate. And is it possible for a firewire to be good enough for dv but not good enough for hdv?

This version of Windows is not supported. You will need to upgrade to Windows XP SP2 or Vista.
Maybe there is a way to register the files from newer versions in 2000.

Thank you sir. I suspected that w2k was not supported. There have been other reasons for me to get an upgrade. This latest reason is the tipping point and that is what I will do.

Beware of Vista - some forum users had pretty bad luck with this new OS.

yeah... I will install win xp sp 2 professional, 32 bit. I will try 64 bit sometime on a different boot drive, but will probably use the win xp 64 bit. I will stick with win xp until it is no longer supported just as I did with windows 2000.
