NOW THAT I HAVE YOUR ATTENTION I CAN ASK THIS:hv20-smilie03:
my friends dad has a bunch of nice ass Nikon lenses and what adapter would be good for putting them on the HV20
(when i mean good i mean cheapest:hv20-smilie77:)

The cheapest way would be homebuilt (http://www.hv20.com/showthread.php?t=489).
(But have you ever heard the old saying, 'Good, fast or cheap: pick any two?')

If I were to sell my static 35mm adapter (including my 50mm f1.8 Canon FD lens) which fit perfectly the HV20, I'm just curious if anyone is willing to buy an already made DIY adapter. (Daniel's)
Please place your bid below::hv20-smilie72:
Specifications:
Image quality is 8/10 compared to best Brevis footage.
No achromat; slight vignetting, no dust/pattern noticeable.
Construction is 8/10 compared to Daniel's adapter.
Light and very compact adapter.

I would be willing to sell mine as well. I enjoyed making it and would not mind making another. Shot this one using my adapter:

great great footage!
I personally feel that it's best for you to buy another HV20 and make another adapter than buy the Brevis for equal $$. Your footage is just as similar with the Brevis'!
I'm considering on making another adapter cause it's so much fun!
Obviously I'm doing something wrong with my first adapter because of the difference in quality.
What are the materials that you are using?
1. What Focusing screen are you using (Ee-A or Ee-S)?
2. What kind/brand of lens are you using (EOS, Canon, nikon, -Fstop, zoom, 50, 28)?
3. What Static holder model (SH-57)?
4. Achromat.(ok)
5. EOS tube.(ok) (is it?)
6. 43-55mm stepup (ok)
Thanks again
(ok; probably cause I don't have an achromat, but I'm still curious that maybe it's not just the achromat that makes a difference in quality, specially vignetting & aberration)

tkmslee, I tried a similar test like the one you did. The color was fine, barrel distortion is to be expected, no aberration. However, the problem I have is properly focus the subject,,, or maybe to properly focus the camera to the focusing screen. Either way, I'm not having a sharp video.

Yeah I was having trouble keeping my subjects in focus. Not only do you have to first focus on the screen, then you need to follow the subject. My wife was watching my footage before edit and she kept saying, "Why is everything so out of focus?" My response was "She keeps moving". Using an adapter with people seems to be a major challenge.
Let me know if you resolve your problem.

tkmslee, if you go to forums link dvxuser, cinevate, dvinfo and other you will see that I've been dealing with 35mm for a long time. Believe when I tell you that you have a great adapter on your hands and it is not worth it to spend almost 1000$ buying another adapter that will achieve the same results. It's like I told you when you posted the footage...I REALLY thought it was either the brevis35 or the M2. You have a great adapter and you have managed to put to goog use. Keep it up.

I'd consider buying a ready made 35mm adapter from one of you guys. My only concern is with buying a static one. If you have a price in mind send me a PM. Although, I am in England, which may be a problem for some of you.

t the problem I have is properly focus the subject,,,
on film sets they have a dedicated person working the focus!
also DOPs with tape measures, 'marks' for actors to hit - it's not that easy
doing it all yourself 'freeform' is like some kind of weird martial art - when you do get it right though it looks fantastic
ok positions people... let's do another take...

So true!
Ya know, the thought of actually taping down and x on the floor has crossed my mind lately. I resisted though because i don't want my poor family to think they have a crazy filmmaker dad.
I think I will post a picture of the rig I made (35mm adapter) so you guys that are interested can see it and maybe I'll throw out a price...it will be pretty low considering all the man hours. I mostly just want to help someone out...or maybe it could lead to making some more and throwing them out on fleaBay :).

Problem solved! My footage is sharp after all. The problem lies on the focusing screen and the camera. I always accidentally touch the focus wheel/or the zoom. I just taped the buttons. It's looks ugly though.

Okay, so here are some pics of my 35mm adapter. I think I could part with it for the cost of the adapter and a bit of change for the work I put into it. It is fixed with a Canon mount on the front and 52mm thread on the back end (so you would have to have a 43mm to 52mm step up ring).

I don't have an achromat 'yet'. Because of that, I've made it as short as possible, sacrificing barrel distortion and vignetting. I'll probably get the achromat that tkmslee posted.
Here is my static adapter which was once a vibrating adapter: :(

Wow, that is long as hell! Do you have to support it with your hand or something, or is it pretty light?
From the pictures, it looks almost twice as long as Daniels, why is that?
upon second glance at both I'm half-retarded. I just didn't realize that the adapter was so long. How much are you guys willing to part with it?

tkmslee,
you are now becoming the haven for the DIY 35mm adapter. Maybe you should be a retailer of the finished adapter.
We should also create a name for this adapter since this isn't a DIY anymore because experts are now building them!

Since the color red has been taken by the Red One.
Blue for the M2.

You guys are awesome!
I have actually deemed it the "RNG35" (for run n gun). My wife teases me about it and calls it the RnFnG like GnFnR (Guns n Roses). That's kind of the default name right now.
I am actually selling my third one this week.

Hi Folks: New member here...
Question: Do those 35mm adapters use the Canon FD mount? or the newer EF mount?
The reason I ask is I have about $9,000 worth of Canon EF lenses that I'd love to be able to use on my new HV20...

Yes! by default it is the Canon EF.
Daniel's tutorial & products are specifically designed for the Canon EF.
Focal flange is set for Canon EF and the bayonet mount is EF.
FD on the other hand, have to go through modifications of the Focal flange and additional mount adapter. But that's not the case since you have $9,000 worth of irreplaceable goods.

SWEEET!!!! OK.. who wants to sell a poor Torontonian one? :) I'm not handy enough to make it!
The "goods" came at the cost of my wife almost killing me for the amount of money I spend on photo equipment (Canon 1DMarkIIn, 30d bodies, and a crapload of L lenses). The HV20 is my first venture into video..

To take away any ambiguity...
I'm unofficially naming this adapter the
DIY35mmPro
DIY because it's inexpensive
35 because that's the format
Pro because it's way more pro than the quality of other DIYs.
But if you don't like the name......I could always edit this post and change the name.

You've got many choices if you want to buy one. There's the Letus35a, Redrock M2, SGPro, and Cinevate Brevis35.
When buying an adapter your first choice is what kind of lenses you'll be using. Nikon uses F-mount, Canon has FD, etc. There are many lens options and not all have an interchangeable option.
The Letus35a is the cheapest and uses a vibrating mechanism (look for posts by Chris Barcellos at dvinfo). The Brevis is also a vibrating focus screen. M2 and SGpro uses a rotating disk as a focus screen. All of them work with the HV20 using the stepup adapters and an achromat, each has its pros and cons. Like the Brevis is noisy so you'll need to have a mic. A few have a flip option (normal 35mm image is inverted). And of course there's the $$$ cost.
Here's a good resource if you want to see opinions:
http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/forumdisplay.php?f=70
I built one for myself to learn how it works first. http://yousillyman.blogspot.com/search/label/35mm

Letus Extreme (http://www.adapterplace.com/component/option,com_virtuemart/page,shop.browse/category_id,7/Itemid,56/) is one of the highest rated models out there right now because it doesn't eat a lot of your light.
The other adapters seem to absorb a greater amount of light thus reducing the conditions they can be successfully used in.

If it has the vibrations, I would not call it the DIY35mmPro but simply the 35mmPro.

Well, the header pretty much states it. I have been impressed with the savvy modders here and would be very interested in buying one off of any of you handy fellows. I am in Chicago, so hopefully shipping wouldn't be too bad.
email me @ applegrrl@gmail.com if you'd like to sell one more.
Thanks in advance!
