View Full Version : NEW IDEA - Group Project Proposal

Many times people have tried to come up with a project that would be of interest to the general public, that we could all contribute to from our various locations.
If you noticed the Sex in the Cinema thread in the pub garnered 100 posts in two days so the topic obviously has interest. People are interested in sex, but we want to avoid porn or gore.
PROJECT PROPOSAL:
What you can imagine is always more than what you can see, but cinema has gotten away from innuendo and double entendres.
I propose we make a movie where the man an woman are anticipating a date. As they go about their lives and make preparations, there will be little flashes of innuendo and double entendres and everything in life reminds them of the upcoming date.
"Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar, and sometimes it's not." We'll probably see some ice cubes, high heels, etc. Lots of things can be taken more than one way.
Each person who wants to contribute can contribute clips that imply sexiness, but there is to be absolutely no sex. I envision a humorous ending where the date doesn't work out.
RULES:
1) You can't show sex, nudity, lingerie, breasts, butts, genitelia, etc. (The idea is to imply, not show.)
2) Shot in 24p or 25p on an HV20 or 24f on an XH-A1, 1920x1080.
3) Location releases and talent releases will be required. I'm hopeful this will go to film festivals, so we need them. Location releases are for private property. If it's your property you can sign it.
4) No logos or trademarks visible. Same reason.
5) It has to be universal. If you allude to a slang name that only applies to one country no one else will get it.
6) Use of depth of field along with other cinematic touches is encouraged, though no 35mm adapter is required. This can often be done by planning the shot.
The same man and woman would have to be used for the overall structure, but all the shots in between can be anywhere, or anybody as long as the scenes are filled with innuendo.
If anyone is interested in this drop a note here. We need a good sized group to think of enough scenes.
I'll post the releases shortly.

I guess that excludes PAL countries as our cameras only shoot 25p :hv20-smilie51:

What happen to the IVP http://www.hv20.com/showthread.php?t=10157 project, Mr IVP Executive Producer (http://www.hv20.com/showthread.php?t=10217)?

If you're talking to me, you're talking to the wrong person! Some kid wanted to be the EP but bailed at the first sign of trouble. Then I think hepabst took over and took the thing in a totally different direction at which point everyone lost interest and it died a slow, painful and silent death. Instead of a casual open invite a project like this needs a dedicated group of "friends" who would do anything to see it through.

Spoiler, sorry to hear about that. I agree with you that it's very difficult to organze an online group project like that. :)

Just wanted to say that I like the idea, and it would be great to see this happen.

For some reason I thought they did 24p too. No matter, I think 25p can be converted without loss of resolution.
If you can send me a clip I can double check the conversion. Actually since it's only one frame per second I doubt it would be noticed if it just ran long. If I remember right you don't have pulldown issues, correct?
The beauty of this project is it doesn't require continuity from shooter to shooter, only whoever does the overall framework shots. Those will be written in later to accomdate the shots I receive from others.

Can we show underwear/lingerie that is NOT on a person? Underwear on the floor, in a garbage can, etc...

Converting 25p to 24p is just a matter of time compressing..
And, much like many other topics, Andrew Kramer has a good tutorial on how to do it (in After Effects) (http://www.videocopilot.net/tutorial/frame_rate_converter/) -- it should be doable in most NLEs too..

I'm still here. The last thing I did with the IVP project was ask if any one shot any footage. No one shot anything. So that's that.
Don't think the whole "OpenSource" style of creating will work, to many ideas, to many egos. So if I have to take the hit for taking it "in a totally different direction" so be it. At least I stepped up to the plate.
Duke, hope you have better success.

Erik, Yep, that's a classic.
bjlancaster:
I think the underwear and lingerie is too direct in general. Then it isn't innuendo. You might think of an idea that IS innuendo for something else, but if you have doubts about an idea PM me about it and I'll tell you without your wasting time doing it.
TCIndie: I've never tried to use 25p footage, but I have AE, so that's great.
Too many projects fail when they meander. They need a vision and a plan. Unfortunately I think the IVP never solidified. No offense to Hepabst, he tried to help but it wasn't there.
Why me: I'm an attorney and will handle the contracts and legal work. I've also won awards as both a director and producer. I have a vision and I'd like you to share it with me.
In real movies the executive producer is usually a money man. It's almost an honorary title as a reward. The Producer (not executive) makes the business arrangements, hires and fires, arranges distribution, etc. I am the producer.
RULES CONT'D:
7) It's a collaboration processes, but someone has to make the final decision. In this instance the producer has the final decision. Period.
8) It's more saleable if we can get any sort of name talent for the man and woman in the frame work parts. That's my job, and probably my money to finance. (If you know someone that's known that would work for SAG ultra-low budget let me know. I know a couple but I'd like some options.)
9) If the final film is saleable, the proceeds will be divided according to the number of minutes each person submitted that is actually used on screen in the final project after costs are paid. (Two name actors and maybe a couple festival fees.) The producer decides what will be used in the final cut.
10) The producer may deligate duties as appropriate to a director or other necessary parties.
11) Each person who's clip(s) are used in the final cut will end up with a cinematographer credit.
As an aside I just found out that my HV20 can play 24f tapes from my XH-A1, and over the HDMI. It's already lost the resolution and color data but it still interpolates it to 4.2.2. Interesting...

I burst out laughing at the donkey punch!! Very good! :hv20-smilie81:

Thanks Erik. Exactly. (Good looking girl too.) The guy and gal being excited about each other are the frame work I was talking about.
I'm still trying to decide if the frame work should be the anticipation of a first date together, or maybe the girl has always said she was saving it for marriage and then implies that a certain day will be the day, but it turns out to be something else. There are a few possibilities.
The donkey punch might be problem. I know what it means, but I've never heard it used in the US, only the UK. I saw a really good one from New Zealand too, but it also alludes to things specific to New Zealand.
The only reason I haven't posted a bunch of links is I don't want people to copy, I'd like original footage and original ideas. This clip shows that scenes inserted in the framework don't need to be long and don't need dialog.

Lauren Bacall (http://www.themoviegeek.com/moviecastlist.php?First=Lauren&Last=Bacall) is so well preserved to this day. Now that's real beauty.

This one is nothing but direct allusions, and word play but quite funny. Innuendo is indirect allusion.

The idea was for footage, but honestly no one has shown any interest. I was considering having Mal remove this thread and just do it on my own when I have more time. I still think it's a good idea.
