25 min MP4 clip (720p, 25 fps): http://hv20.info/yopu/stuntshow.mp4

On Sunday my family visited the Filmpark in Potsdam Babelsberg.

We went to the stunt show at "Barter Town". It is inspired by "Mad Max". Here the setup for employing the HV20:

Due to our three little children we retreated to a corner. The HV20 with a WD-H43 wide angle converter was on a Velbon DV-7000 tripod. My idea was to record the overview scenery with the HV20 and concurrently trace details with my Nikon D70 DSLR.

Negatives:
- I just had 20 min of tape left! That was just enough for the first part of the show. I recorded the second half with a Nokia N93.
- The floor consisted of metal plates. They were vibrating significantly at various times.
- The WD-H43 has a strong barrel distortion at the widest setting.

Positives:
- The sound recording of the internal microphone was quite good for my taste. Sometimes the sound on the scene was extremely loud, sometimes rather quiet - the HV20 managed to keep a good level. Spoken parts can't always be understood well but that wasn't different on location, it's no fault of the HV20.
- I found the resolution of the HV20 well suited to the recording. At YouTube there are clips of the show recorded in lower resolution, with the additional deterioration by the YouTube encoding hardly anything can be recognized.

I recorded in "P" mode with 1080i. I used default settings except brightness -1. No edits of the clip. For export I experimented a lot and ended up with MPEG-4 using AVC with 1200 kbps for video and AAC with 128 kbps for audio. I used the Main Concept MP4 Encoder as an add-on to Movie Edit Pro, the encoding took about an hour. With a file size of 236 MB the clip is close to the HV20 forum limit. The quality is not far from a test with WMV at 98% quality which produced a 3 GB file and required 12 hours CPU time (AMD Athlon X2 4200+).

Some key points in the clip:
0:00 Moderation explaining the show and warming up the audience
2:10 Wobble while audience tramples with feet
4:31 "Action", start of the show
10:20 Queen appears, see below
19:34 Start of cage fight
21:48 End of part 1, some jumps during the break

As an example of my DSLR coverage here's the queen of Barter Town shortly before descending from the roof (see the small angle at the top right of the overview image):

Although they use Police Academy at WB Movie World in Bottrop, it really reminds me of that show. Next time, donīt forget the extra tape. :D
