Hi Everyone,

Is it possible to record to a dvd with a dvd-recorder, directly from the camera-setting? So without making use of a mini-DV tape?

That would really help me out, since I record interviews for work.

Thanks!

Itīs possible if your DVD-recorder can record from the RCA-jackets (composite-out).

I have a DVD Recorder that has a Firewire input, if you want I can test it and see if I can record to a DVD while in camera mode. Problems going to be the camera wanting to auto power off if left in standby mode, wonder if you can turn that off...

You can turn "Power Save" off in the Menu. Also run the camera off the mains charger system.
The other trick is:- when I had to rcord direct on to VHS tape using a recorder, I put a tape in the camera and just let it run in record mode. (Waste of a tape - I know) Oddly enough, this technique was used when I was carrying out interviews of students.

This is exactly what I'd do if I were recording to an external device, just for the sole point of having a backup.

If you could, my question is why would you? Don't you feel you would have a need to edit the interview. What is the final audience going to be for this interview?

I'm a pretty big dreamer, but I can't dream up a reason that I would ever want to go from my HV20 directly to a DVD disk unless it recorded it as a HDV data file (for archival purpose), and than it would only be able to burn about 20 minutes per disk. Now maybe I'm not as good of cameral operator as most people but the videos I shoot, don't stream from my camera ready to be viewed by anyone but myself. They need to be edited.

By the way, if you did it Senor's way, you may as well be recording your interview with a VHS camcorder because that's the resolution you will wind up with.

How about going through the firewire to an external hard drive? That would be perfect for doing time lapse video and it would negate the upload time. Is this possible?
