i just had an idea for the HV short contest.. for HV members to to make a 'really short' short film. By that i mean restrict entries to a cirtain amount of time.. for example 10secons, 1minute or anything inbetween. It would be intersting what people could come up with in such a short period of film time. They had a competition on an aussie radio station ( though people just entered stupid things with very little thought and there limit was only 8 seconds.. ) But i thought it would be interesting. What do you think ?
regards Marty.

I like that idea a lot. It opens the door for more possible entries...
Posted the following [rather pessimistically] in this thread, called "HD Shorts Contest General Discussion":

...I would of hoped this film festival could of somehow had its own identity, and be different in some way from the other 5000 such festivals.
Without its own identity it will soon fade away, if indeed it ever takes off.
I can [strongly] suggest that this be organized simply, and without expectations.
Just pick some VERY SIMPLE RULES, a VERY SHORT MAXIMUM FILM DURATION (I recommend 2 or 3 minutes), a VERY APPEALING and SIMPLE theme, a start date, a finish date, and let the contest begin.

Thanks mal :) i think the contests are such a good idea, but i hate the fact of being tied down to a theme... now don't all flame me for saying that, but i would prefer a genre as it is not as closed down in terms of what we have to go by. i know that that will not likely happen but just saying whats on my mind. I just think the easier it is to participate to more entries we will have. Did not mean to p*ss anyone off i was just venting. :hv20-smilie24:

How about a 30 second commercial for "HV20 breath mints"...
"Now with odor-fighting '24p'!" :hv20-smilie155:

i think that the themes are so loose that they are almost non-existant.
They rarely are a big deal to me personally, but i see where you are coming from.

I like the idea... I would also say that themes push creativity from people. It helps them in the long run when they work with unfamiliar projects.

I really like the "Short Shorts" idea. 1 minute or less. People would have to plan well, shoot beautifully, and edit tight in order to get their point across.

Guys, i like this idea, i really do. However, i have the next competition almost completely figured out already, so maybe i can run with this idea for next time?

hey, I've been thinking about this a lot lately!
I think that we should have a short limit for time, such as 20-30 seconds. (as said above)
No theme though.
10 seconds is just too short to do much.
That's just my opinion / proposal.

I know there are a number of "15-second film festivals" out there. Many commercials get their points across in that amount of time, so that seems like an ideal...um...."minimum maximum" if you will.

I agree no THeme. A 20-30 second film with theme would be way to constrictive.

(long time lurker here - saving pennies for hv30)
another idea - if you do make it short like that, make them follow one another, then have whoever is running the contest edit them together.
not sure how to do it - the ideal situation would be that person A makes a film about something then person B picks up from there and does 30 seconds then person C's film is next.. etc. but that would be nearly impossible since you don't know if you're going to end up with 10 people participating or 20, or if one person ends up not doing it then you have a hole.

yeah, it is a contest, not a group project

It's good idea Visconti, but -- I think -- not for a contest. People really want to try and win with their own ideas, and their own productions. :hv20-smilie03:
But the idea of shooting a short bit then someone else continue on with their take on the next part sounds really fun.
I'd be up for that.
Only problem I see as far as editing it together is we can't use the same actors or locations, so it would have to be like "SLACKERS" were something is passed on to the next filmmaker, and it starts when they pick up that item or idea, and ends when it's passed on.
Lot's of logistic issues on this idea, but it could be done
