I have problems when viewing the .avi files I render out of vegas from the time line. Did a few tests and all I hear is the sound. Also files are huge -- like a gig just for a couple seconds. Still a newbie at this.
I have a HP AMD 64 Processor 3500+ 2.19 Ghz, 1GB ram. (Windows only seems to recognize 896 MB of that).
Also, is RAM specific to AMD or Pentium? I could use a extra GB, it seems, but want to buy the right one for my PC.

Well it could be a number of different things. First what player are you using to try to view your .avi files? Windows Media Player for instance might not be able to read the file. Second you computer may not be able to handle the data rate of an HD .avi file. This would involve hard drive speed, processor speed, RAM and graphics speed (if you're only seeing 896MB RAM it could be the rest is shared with graphics processor.) The RAM you need is specific to your mother board - not processor. Get more of what you already have - it should be marked on the modules themselves.
I would do your test rendering to a 720p .wmv file and see how that plays on your system. You'll still be getting HD resolution but at a much lower bitrate.

Thanks for this! Yea, I do need to upgrade. I also heard of utilizing two hardrives via firewire or USB: One for capturing and one for rendering. I do have a Western Digital 80 GB. Not sure the RPM. Wonder if that would help. For players I have VLC, DivX, Quick Time, and of course, Windows player.

Donīt forget - AVI is not a video format, only a container.
So make sure what you put inside of it. ;)
