Folks,
New to video editing.
Can someone suggest a site(s), where we can download some free soundtracks to add to some family videos?
I am also open to paid soundtracks :hv20-smilie02:
Thanks

For family videos, why not just use your favourite audio tracks ripped from CD?
Alternatively, Google for "Microsoft Music Producer"

I've had good experience with: http://www.podsafeaudio.com/, but I usually just use songs I like from my regular library.
You can find my home movies here: http://dewde.com/videos
Artists you will hear:
John Mayer
Ben Folds
Faith Hill
Barenaked Ladies
Jack Johnson

I like twistedtracks.com. If you sign up with them you get 1 or 2 songs for free and they have a pretty good selection. I've used them for a couple projects.

My home movies (mostly of my 5-week-old baby girl) go up on YouTube for family across the county to see. I put a Beatles soundtrack on one, which really makes the video, but now I'm afraid of getting a subpoena in the mail from Michael Jackson. Realistically, what's the likelihood of me getting in any trouble over a 3 minute clip of my baby that might get at most 50 views?

See http://www.nvm.org.au
They have a series of three fund raising disks for sale, very cheaply. All Really Royalty free music (Creative commons license) You can even use it commercially.

Try Jamendo.com, they have a good supply of soundtracks. You just have to dig deep to find the right kind of music for your video.
It's free and legal for non-commercial use and licensed by Creative Commons.

Hey... I'm new to video editing and I've got a couple of small projects that I'd like to post on Youtube. Any suggestions as to what sites are good, and hopefully free? If I list the song title and author in the credits of the film, is that enough to cover my butt, or is there something else I have to do? :hv20-smilie03:

Slim to none my friend. People upload music videos they rip off TV and they get millions upon millions of hits and they don't get slapped with subpeonas, even if it says specifically "do not upload footage off of TV that is not yours".
Really, with the millions of people who make videos with other peoples songs on youtube, if you did get hit with a lawsuit, I'm pretty sure pigs would fly by your window soon after.

Not free, but extraordinarily good for use in amateur video:

Jason,
Why would you want to take the risk?
The number of people that see the video isn't relevant. The amount of money you make isn't relevant. You wouldn't even have a descent defense.
The reason you used the music was to make your video seem better. You know the video has value.
Do you want to gamble your baby's future when there are so many sources of free music? It's like shop lifting. Sure you probably wouldn't get caught, and it's not worth much. But it's sure as h*ll embarrassing, expensive and might cost a job somewhere down the line.
