I am shooting for a feature movie using my HV20 HDV cams and am using a RAID-0 array 1.5TB 2 disk setup on my computer. I know about how RAID-0 is NOT for long term storage and can be risky. I am using RAID-0 for the speed and throughput to handle HDV.

What I am wanting to do is prepare for disaster although I have been using my computer for 9 months w/ no probs. I want to safeguard my work to avoid troubles. I am selectively capturing only the "good" footage.

How do youse guys & girls do this ? I do not want to capture ALL of my footage and then edit the feature thinking lightning will not strike. I see that as too risky. I would feel more comfortable doing it scene by scene, then upload all of the scenes edited, then save the project onto 2 DV tapes when finished. Or should I capture everything, back it up and edit the entire feature and reload the "good" footage if disaster strikes ???

I am using Vegas to edit..

I am thinking my best attack will be:
1. capture by scene
2. archive "good footage" by scene onto tape
3. edit by scene
4. render each scene & save to tape & hard drive
5. save scene by scene as project files w/ and w/o M&E
6. compile all & final edit
7. dump to tape & dvd w/ & w/o m&e
8. clean up drives & get ready for next project

Thanxx for any input.
