Wanted to say thanks to all who clicked on the B&H link AND then bought something.
It's not a pay-per-click kind of deal, so just clicking on the link won't do anything; but if you click the B&H link and then buy something, we get a small percentage of the sale.

So far we've made U$21 and a few cents. Might not seem like much to some, but it goes a HUGE way to pay for the server/hosting of this site!

So: MANY THANKS!

I think we should all buy something by clicking through the B&H ad on HV20.com and hook up Mal with some cash. B&H sells a lot of different things, like computer stuff, besides camera equipment...

Come on, let's do it!!! :hv20-smilie45: :hv20-smilie45: :hv20-smilie45: :hv20-smilie45: :hv20-smilie45:

I am split between two things....

If I click on B and H through my NAPP account I get free three day shipping. I am human and I always want to get the fastest shipping. I am sorry that I'm not perfect and I order through the wrong link!

I just became aware of this.

I frequently order from B&H, have been a satisfied customer for years now, they set the GOLD STANDARD for integrity in the online/mail order business.

I've always gone direct to their website.

I will mend my ways...

I don't have any need for any gear -- or anything else B&H sells... but if you were to add a "Donate" button somewhere I might be inclined to click it and throw a little cash your way to help with operating costs. ;)

Alrighty then!

1. Plant your corn early.

2. Don't walk down dark alleys at night.

3. Stay the hell out of show business!

... and also ...

Never eat at a place called "Mom's." Never play cards with a man named "Doc." And never go to bed with anyone who has more problems than you! :hv20-smilie77:

So, if I click the above link, then buy ANYTHING, a percentage goes to Mal WHICH goes to this site? Hell, whenever I buy anything from BH, I'll go to this website and press the link THEN buy something. That's how it works, right?

Never eat at a place called "Mom's."

Exceptions to the rule:
Mama's Fish house: Maui
Mother's Restaurant: New Orleans

And if I may add another tip: never argue with someone who buys ink by the gallon.:hv20-smilie64:

STRONGLY AGREE WITH THIS!

And don't forget about the donated HV stock footage idea for a nominally priced membership either! :hv20-smilie84:

I live near B&H and I always go in there. Can I order from the banner and then go in to the store to pick it up? There's no sense in waiting at least three days for the order to come in the mail (and maybe miss the mailman, TOO MUCH of a hassle) when I can get to the store in 1/2 an hour...

I want to let you guys in on the action. I recently picked up a DVD player, a tripod head, some filters, shux, I got my wife's MacBook there, too! They got about $1,500 out of me recently. Don't know how much that would have given you, but I'm sure it would have helped at least a little!

How do we know if our purchase "took"? I ordered some stuff around Jan 20 using the link. Am I supposed to be logged in here or do I just click on the link from here logged in or not?

There's no way of knowing, unfortunately; but I think they do that deliberately.
It's sort of a background thing.

If the original link has the /BI/2685/KBID/3590 at the end of it when you hover over it, and you have cookies enabled, and you complete the purchase without leaving the site or clearing cookies it WILL take.

(BTW, the browser itself once you're there won't display the /BI/2685/KBID/3590 - that's just used internally at B&H.)

Just another Kudos to B&H!

I've purchased lots of stuff online through other vendors and B&H.
Instead of getting a call from B&H telling me they got my order but "you know, we think you could really use this [useless overpriced add on that'll make us more money that you'll kick yourself for buying]", they just ship it. On time, well packed, and in great shape! I LOVE IT!

Yep! I'll be clicking through the banner here to get to them going forward too.

Thanks for keeping this place running. I always enjoy it!

Yeah, but it seems many companies have forgotten how to treat customers. B&H has always operated this way, not just now when customers are getting harder to come by in this economy. Never hurts to give a good word to a company that treats its customers right.:hv20-smilie77:

I really don't care for it. I'd just rather they ship it & I don't have to worry about getting a phone call.

I bought over $600 worth of camera equipment from [an unnamed vendor] who didn't bother to process the order until the next day when their sales guy could call me. And, of course, he tried to upsell me on overpriced stuff I didn't really need. And then, when I went for a couple of the things and it showed up they sent me the wrong stuff so then I had to pay postage to ship it back to them & tell them to keep the crap that they'd sent me.

It was interesting. He tried to sell me on an 8GB SD card for $60.00. When I told him I was looking at the same one on Overstock.com for $20.00 he magically changed his price. That didn't impress me at all.

Yeah, I know they probably have to do it to keep their sales numbers high, but it really ticked me off. B&H on the other hand just processes my order. I like it that way! I wanna click the button and know that in a few days it'll show up on my doorstep, not be called by some pushy salesman who portrays himself as a "photography expert" but yet can't even get his SD Card figures or Filter Types right....

I also really appreciate the B&H video tutorials they post online about their various products. That takes a lot of work to produce those (all of us should know that) & they share it for free. I'd much rather shop with a place that A) Runs a reputable business B) Is willing to give good advice away for free (to earn my business) and C) Processes my order in a timely manner without trying to pressure me into something I really don't want. Oh yeah, and when you call they actually answer the phone! I love it!

And, B&H seems to be willing to go out of their way to support places like this forum and other photography forums I've been on. Kudos to them!

You did not get what I meant. CW did. In any case, when you flush a toilet and it works every time, you don't praise it for doing what it is supposed to, do you? This is just normal.

How do we know it worked or not? I know you posted at the beginning this forum has received 21$ and change, but still, how do we know it actually worked?

Not distrusting B&H's side of the deal, but if I click on the banner and make a purchase, what assurance do we, the forum members, have that this place get's their cut?

I'm in the market for a fish eye/wide angle lens, as well as an external mic. I remembered this thread and decided to see if it was still up. I see there hasn't been like any updates regarding the amount received by HV20.com and just got me thinking my question above.

I'm going to purchase the items just on good faith because this forum is great. I am a new HV30 owner and being able to come here and find out stuff about HD camcorders to how to use the HV30 in general, is awesome.

Thanks again.

Mal,
I implore you to set up some kind of donation page via PayPal or something. I'm always on the run and can't wait for deliveries. I live like 30 minutes from B&H and am there every week (even the doorman with the head counter knows me). I don't get stuff shipped.

With a donation page, I would put a little something in the pot.

Didn't wanted to start a new thread about that, but I recently saw a banner on top of the page linking to the printfection store...do you plan to add the advertising like it's once been? With B&H, the contest banner and all? Just wondering.

2011 July 3rd, 05:50
Yes, it is likely that advertising will return.

As it turns out, we were sans advertising for something like a year, and as such probably a unique thing on the internet!!!

There will be limited advertising returning, probably the B&H stuff, the lunchbox links, and other such RELATED things.

It is VERY likely that I will continue to disallow advertising from non-members who just want to pay money for ads, and not participate in the community.

That would be pretty cool! It could use some attention. I'm sure the prizes would be lucrative to people.

Mal, as a suggestion, maybe consider setting up "stores"?

i.e. an LA Color Store and B&H store with picture links of featured products and the individual store search that will display the results still in HV20.com...with "add to cart" buttons available on the featured picture links and any search results.

...with a message to tell you to be logged in/cookies enabled before you proceed to the store section of the site, (or will be blocked from store if not). This way, when someone buys something and then will eventually be redirected into the actual store site to pay - the cookies can trace back to HV20.com and/or attach the codes so you can get your cut. (Or however the cookie/code thing works in that setup.)

In the past, when it was suggested we paste the code to end of the product address, it may not have been a straight-forward process. You really have potential here to make cash. I myself just bought an S-load of stuff from B&H recently and I'm sure many other people here have done the same for BH/LA Color Store.
