When I use the wide angle lens, I don't have any sort of filter. Do you think I need to put a UV filter between the HV20 and the wide angle lens (or elsewhere)?

While they provide a slight reduction in atmospheric haze for scenic shots, most people use a UV filter primarily as protection for the camera (it's a lot less heart-breaking to scratch up a filter than your HV20's lens).
Most WA adapters don't have front filter threads because the wide-angle lens has such deep focus, every speck of dust on a front-mounted filter would be razor sharp. Bearing in mind that every extra layer of glass between subject and camera represents a potential reduction in image quality, I generally take my UV filter off when using the wide angle, although I may use a polarizer or ND filter behind it to manage reflections and exposure.

Thanks Eric. That is exactly the reasoning I had in my head, but wanted confirmation.
